Food:

The serving sizes are huge and very good value. If you are looking for fine cuisine, this is not the place. The menu has been the same for as long as I can remember (at least 7 years). If you wish to get dressed up and go somewhere nice for dinner, look elsewhere. If you want to go out for a family dinner or somewhere that will have something to please most, then this is a good choice. If I didn't live locally however, I wouldn't go out of my way.

Service:

The service here is awful. Occasionally that can be put down to one staff member having a bad day but on the last occasion I went there three separate staff members were incredibly rude. One of these was the manager. We were polite and they were all seemingly nonchalant and mute on this quiet day

Ambience:

It is always crowded and loud, sitting inside can be quite unbearable. The outside is much better, and has powerful heaters in those winter months. On the down side it's a smokers haven and every meal comes with the strong aroma of nicotine.

Overall:
Nicholsons is good for convenience but terrible for service. Locally I would much rather go to Kellys Cafe which has far better service, menu choices and atmosphere.

Overall:
Well this Bar & Grill was always looked upon by on-lookers and I being a local from Canning Vale find it a great place to take the family and friends.

Upon arrival I and my girlfriend Isabella and also invited our good friends Beau and Mark to join us, we've decided to take time and dine in. The car park is quite large and easily fills up in no time that really shows how popular the place is.

Once I, Isabella, Beau and Mark walked in, we've been greeted with a very polite waitress which she addressed us to our table. Our table was outside which was beautiful, having vines and a water feature outside with fish in it made it ever more tranquil.

Everyone was getting edgy to eat so we all decided to have a squiz at the menu and we were all impressed. I opted to shout out the drinks. I decided that beer was on the menu cause it was a nice balmy day. Beck's on tap was coming well and the mug was well over a litre, also the beer wasn't much at all being $9.00. Well once you've got beer it must mean food must be on the agenda as well, so everyone has opted for the entree` first. I had a look and came up with Nacho's Chicken ($16.00) the dish was absolutely great. Isabella went along with Creamy Garlic Prawn ($24.00) and that was quite large for a entree` but we weren't fussed as Mark and Beau were all eager to eat, both Mark and Beau went straight to the main meals (well typical of them).

Once I and Isabella finished our entree` we had to move onto the main meals. Well Mark and Beau already into the mains with Mark choosing the Fisherman’s Catch ($26.00) which consisted of Grilled fillet of fish smothered in a creamy garlic and prawn sauce, sprinkled with almond flakes and served with fresh salad garnish and beer battered fries (the dish was quite large). Beau opted on the Scotch Fillet ($31.00) and it was very, very big also it had fillet of steak grilled to your liking with your choice of sauces served with beer battered fries and salad. I had good long look with Isabella and came upon Nick's Seafood Plate ($30.00) to share with Bella. The dish was absolutly massive and lucky we've decided to share or I wouldn't be finishing it at all, it had a selection of chilli mussels, grilled fish, prawns and crumbed calamari served on a bed of beer battered fries and salad all along-side.

Everyone had a chuckle on how full we were, but didn't want to go home with no dessert in our belly. So everyone was eagerly squinting at the dessert menu and were all so impressed. I came up with Ice-Cream Sundae ($6.00) which consisted with Ice cream with chocolate sauce, sprinkled with nuts and topped with fresh cream (my absolute favourite). Isabella decided with the Banana Split ($6.00) which had a fresh banana and ice cream with chocolate sauce and whipped cream topped with crushed nuts. Mark had an Apple & Blueberry Crepes with crepe filled with apple covered with blueberries, ice cream and chocolate sauce topped with a dollop of whipped cream and Beau with Sticky Date Pudding ($6.00) which consisted with Traditional toffee and date pudding served warm with caramel sauce, ice cream and cream.

Once it was all completed an down into our abdominals we felt like we needed another jug of Beck's to wash it all down and be refreshed. Note: We all stayed around until everyone was fresh. Since all that food was consumed we felt so full and lucky footy training is on the agenda the next day we all had some kilojoules to burn.

Along with a delicious menu they also have an extensive range of beverages to satisfy your thirst. With the freshest of local ingredients being used, their superb menu features a huge range of mouth-watering options for you to choose from.

So next time your around Canning Vale come and drop by and have a meal and a beer or two, which you will be very impressed.

To everyone have a fine dine and a glass of wine.

Thanks,
Hammy.

For a Tuesday night, Nicholson’s was doing a steady trade with all the inside tables full and the function room booked out. Catching up for a girlie dinner, my friend and I couldn’t find anything on the menu that would could be classed as “ok to eat when dieting” so we decided to blow the diet and indulge. Almost everything comes with beer battered chips and there were lots of creamy garlic sauces. I decided on salt and pepper squid (with chips and salad - $19) and my friend chose the Fisherman’s Feast “a fillet of fish with prawns in a creamy garlic sauce, scattered with almonds and served with” yep, chips and salad ($26). In saying that, there was nothing at all wrong with our meals, they were fresh, tasty and filling and there was no scrimping on the prawns or squid either. We washed them down with a glass of Riesling for her and a Semillon sauv blanc for me.

After waiting for all of that to digest, we ordered two mochas and shared a sticky date pudding and chocolate chunk cheesecake for dessert (I did say we were blowing the diet didn’t I?). There were 4 or 5 cheesecakes on display to choose from and I think 4 desserts on the menu. They also have a range of chocolates on the counter that you can purchase. I don’t mind the fact that you have to pay and order at the bar (although the “No EFTPOS or credit cards” sign did throw me, but I think you could go to another till to use these) and the reasonably priced, decent sized meals are obviously a winning formula.

My friends and I are frequenters at Nicholson's. It has never disappointed us. Great food with sizeable portions whereby we're always struggling to finish the meal, reasonable prices, friendly staff and nice atmosphere.

You do have to order your own food and drinks at the counter, but hey no dramas! Just think of it as a little exercise before tucking into one of their delicious enormous meals!!

We called in to Nicholson's for a break from gardening duties on Sunday afternoon. There were quite a few people there having late lunches, lingering over their meals or just enjoying a beer. The meals that were coming out of the kitchen were HUGE and looked delicious. We saw a serve of Nachos that was piled high. We just had two coffees (which were really nice - not sure of the brand) and ordered a serve of italian sausage and garlic bread. These are 2 of our favourite dishes and I thought it was a great idea to serve them together.

For $9 we got a large bowl full of grilled, hot and very tasty sausage. They were big pieces and went well with the 2 serves of garlic bread. A really nice snack. Service was prompt and the atmosphere in the beer garden was pleasant enough. We are going to go back for dinner to see what the meals are like, the menu looked really nice for a casual night out.

fantastic food and value for money! The prices are reasonable for the huge portions you get.

I've been there a few times already and so far all the dishes that i tried did not disappoint me.

Good portions, fresh meat and yummy-tasting, it's 1 place that i will keep on going back for more!

Been twice now. Nice basic food, lots of choice and big (huge!) portions.
I don't mind ordering at the bar, but it's annoying when you have to order and pay for your drinks separately....

Lots of chicken on the menu, and I love chicken. Also plenty of other things. I agree that the beer battered chips are nice.

It gets busy and if you want to get into the nice part of the restaurant you'll usually need to book. Otherwise you end up in the bigger part (where they also do functions etc), though that is alright too.

Food is value for money but have not seen any changes for several years, wine list and menu could certainly do with a few updates. Nice to have some simple grills. Whilst dining outside is lovely, the grassed area is being occupied by full on smokers its certainly not pleasant whilst eating. Suggest putting another set of diners on grassed area, then the smokers will have to move onto the 'dirt' area.

Enjoy.

This place is great!! Nicholson's is popular and it's not hard to see why. You order your meal and drinks like you would at an old fashioned pub - by ordering and paying at the counter. The food comes in HUGE portions and is actually really good! Don't be fooled - every single item on the extensive menu comes in a huge portions. The beer battered chips are to die for, so any dish which includes chips is a good choice. However there are many choices on the menu so this is a great place for family get togethers and birthday parties etc. so eaters of all types get what they want. Their surf 'n turf (can't remember the name exactly) is quite good with two oysters and garlic prawns on the side. Their chilli mussels are worth a go too. Desserts are also on the large side and are good value for money =)

Nicholson's is not exactly the most ambient of restaurants but with good food and good company you wouldn't want more.

This place is HUGE and it gets really packed!!

Not like your fancy new restaurants where you are waited on hand and foot. You have to place your order at the front counter and get your drinks from the bar.

But that just adds to the different atmosphere.

Great for the whole family.

The food is excellent and there is a big variety. Portion sizes are big too!

Value for money.
