- Lovely food. Opted for set menu for V'Day 'eve' Dinner. 4 courses (Ocean and Land option) I had white tuna sashimi (delicately balanced), barramundi w/ caviar (average - my fish was overcooked), salmon (perfectly cooked) and shared a Salt & Pepper seafood platter (ebi prawns, fish cakes and spider crab) My partner went with the 'Land' option and was served, beef tataki (delicious), duck breast (perfectly cooked) and beef sirloin (med rare) the boy thoroughly enjoyed his courses. Portions are small, but beautifully presented. For dessert we had the red bean and banana spring roll w/ fresh fruit and chocolate ice-cream.

- I love the interior - its a stark contrast from the grey walls on the outside. But the food and charm that awaits inside is something I would urge others to try. Suited for a romantic outing, as well as for small groups of people. Request for table away from 'restroom' section.

- I would definitely go back here. Service and food is fantastic. Atmosphere spot on. And best of all, its not as overly priced as I had always imagined it would be. You can save alot of money from the mere fact its BYO alcohol, so if you fancy a brew of cocktail mixes, feel free to bring them down. $3.50/person corkage charge, 25% off from Entertainment Card (and they don't scratch the number off the back) - what more could you ask for :)

We decided on the set menu as it had everything that we all wanted - sashimi taster, duck & scallop entree, choice of salmon or sirloin for mains, and a scoop of icecream (green tea or mango) for desert.
The sashimi was fresh, and there was an assortment of sashimi salad - good effort but I think there could have been more work done on the flavours. The duck and scallop dish was well presented, with the flavours nicely balanced, however, the duck was very tough and certainly tarnished what would have been an excellent dish. I had the steak; beautiful sauce really going well with the meat and mash, however again the steak was very tough. Others had the salmon which was a great dish.
Nothing to rave about the desert, it was OK. - Service

- Service was efficient at the start, and waitstaff were polite and friendly. However by the end of the night it was clear that they were understaffed and not very well coordinated on the floor. I had to pay my bill at the counter as I couln't get anyones attention after I received the bill.

- Very zen-style furnishings with a water feature in the middle of the restaurant. I liked the layout and design of the restaurant - some may complain it is too dark, but i think it added to the atmosphere. A place to have a semi formal dinner for work, or catch up with friends.

- For a fine dining restaurant, I think there is plenty of room for improvement - for the price we paid, i expected innovative food that inspires both the eye and taste buds. This was my second time to Nine Fine Food - the first time (over 12 months ago) I was blown away with the innovative dishes all cooked to perfection. I was disappointed this time around, and while everyone in my party was satisfied with the meal, no one was readily throwing around compliments.

- Because we had 10 people we were told we could only have the banquet meal, which consisted of 2 entree's (sashimi and scallops with duck), 1 main (choice between salmon and steak) and dessert (choice of flavoured ice cream). For $55 per head i thought this a bit steep until i tried the food. The sashimi was absolutely lovely and fresh, the scallops with the duck was devine and the salmon (which is what i had for a main) was cooked perfectly.

Once the nod was given to start serving the food, it came out pretty promptly and cleared away without to much intrusion. Would have been nice to have my white wine in a chill bucket though, which is my only complaint

For mains i always go for the scallop dish which is so beautifully presented and a joy to eat-very yum! The soft shell crab also is a winner. For dessert we always share the trio of homemade icecreams- all very lovely and nice and light keeping with the style of the food

- Entrees: Tasting plate (Deep Fried prawns, calamari & fish, beef, scallops & tuna), salt & pepper seafood (DF fish & calamari) & prawn spring rolls with an assortment of dipping sauces. Each morsel was delicious, like a party in my mouth (especially the scallops & tuna!) I was surprised by the amount of deep fried food however it was so light, not oily at all. Big thumbs up all round. Mains: Battered Barramundi (inc noodles, dipping sauce & salad). Beef Eye fillet & prawns (the sauce was too sweet & lacked seasoning, also was served rare - medium well was requested). the salmon & scallops was beautifully presented & the standout dish! Dessert was Azuki bean & choc bananna spring rolls, very different but very tasty! Good food enjoyed by all

- The entrees were a standout & really got your taste buds working but my main of Beef was a let down as the sweet sauce overtook the dish. The Salmon & scallop dish was like a work of art & it was almost a shame to eat it. All round the food was beautifully presented, tasted great & was a very enjoyable evening. This was our first Japanese experience which we all loved. We will be back! Two Entertainment cards were used, total bill came to $155 for the 4 of us. BYO ONLY - $3.50 corkage per person

We went for the four course tasting menu - sashimi tasting plate for starter, followed by duck & scallops, I had the salmon for main while my partner had the steak, and we chose to get the banana/red bean spring rolls with our dessert. The sashimi was delicious, and nice to try the different types. The duck & scallops was yum - the scallops were cooked perfectly (the duck was a little fatty). My salmon was fantastic, and I think it was the better of the mains, although the different mushrooms on the steak were nice to try. The salmon came with a fish cake that was also great. And the dessert was a lovely way to finish it off.
Disappointed we didn't get to try the tasting plate though! Will have that next time for sure. - Service

On the 2 occassions I've dined at Nine Fine Foods I have had the tasting plate for entrees, and both times have been really happy with the quality and variety of food: beef tataki, scallops, chicken karaage (?), tempura prawns, barramundi smash, egg/tofu thing. All very good and filling (but not too much).
I have also eaten the duck and scallops, beef tataki, soft shell crab, seafod salad and various sashimi and sushi. Every thing I have ever eaten there has been fresh and tasty. Portion sizes are adequate and you can order more dishes like a tapas style dining experience. The banana and red bean paste spring rolls are officially my favourite dessert in Perth! The menu seems to be a good blend of japanese and western flavours. - Service

- Its a small restaurant and it can get quite noisy when full (which seems to be all the time). The red walls and tealights add to the cosy feel of the place. My only dislikes are the drinks refrigerator (makes the place seem like a take away) and the cramped and quirte dingy loos.

I called up to make a reservation and was pleasantly surprised when the Chef answered the phone. He recommended a special 6 course meal for $70, but said that he would require a day's notice if we wanted to try it out. After he got a feel for what type of food i liked, i asked him what dishes would be served and he replied "Trust me" and it was with those two words, that i agreed to order what would be the best Japanese meal i've ever had.
The courses were:
1 Oysters wrapped in raw salmon in a wasabi-fish-roe sauce, and a lotus root soup
2 Avocado and salmon salad
3 Explosively flavoursome angus beef slices
4 A fist sized shell creature (tasted similar to abalone) we nicknamed "shelly" in a teriyaki sauce
5 Mouth-wateringly good sword fish tataki
6 Perfectly cooked grilled swordfish\
7 A juicy thick piece of wagu beef covered in a spicy sauce.
Yes, i got 7 (not six) dishes for the $70, all of which were fantasticly scrumpcious! The desert must not be missed! red bean and banana spring rolls! - Service

- I have been to Nine with my partner three times and have never been disappointed. On this occasion we did the 4 course meal which at $55 per head offers great value. The starter was a sashimi plate which was nice and fresh. The entre was a combination of duck & scallops - which were also great. We both chose the steak for our mains and these were cooked to our specifications. Dessert was a little helping of black sesame ice cream which went down well. If you like a Japanese influenced foods, Nine wont disappoint. Also note that it is byo only.

- Our table of three had the omakase tasting menu.. saves having to choose. The entree sashimi was wonderful, salmon, tuna, scallop, prawn and a white fish, could have been king fish with avocado and some restrained salad greens. All was wonderfully fresh and tasty. Then came the duck and scallop combo, with two sauces, sweet chili and I think sesame something. Both duck and scallops were cooked perfectly and the combination was delicious. The main dish required a choice between salmon and steak. Two salmons and one steak was ordered, and both were disappointing. Overcooked meat and fish, second rate vegetables and non existing contrast or delicacy of flavour we have seen from here in the past. Desert was some ice cream.

-
I discovered this restaurant after hearing it mentioned on a food blog. Looking for somewhere new to eat my partner and I ventured here at very short notice. I rang to book a reservation at 6:20 on Saturday evening only to be told it was completely full. After a few minutes, however, some re-shuffeling meant we could spend the night here....and not to the point that we felt we were sitting on top of other patrons.
The ambience is clean and simple, with lovely relaxed background music. There were signs advertising for staff and only two people working on the floor but we never noticed this, constantly being looked after the entire night. The selling point for this restaurant is by far the food. I am a huge sea-food fan and was in complete heaven. And the presentation was A grade. My partner and I shared a tasting plate ($35) which was neither too much nor too little.
The only possibly downfall to be had for the entire night was the plastic tablecloths!

Fine Food at Nine
Finally got to come to this place last night after dropping big hints to the b'friend.
We walked into a warm luscious red room and were greeted by a waiter that gave us a choice of a few seats. We chose near the window.
Once seated we were given water (choice of tap or mineral) and menus and wine was poured and placed in an ice bucket. As we perused the menu our waiter came back and told us about the specials of the day, going through all the details.
We decided on the cold tasting plate to share for entree, which consisted of various sashimi salmon and tuna salads, beef tataki, eel, prawn salad and scallops. Each morsel was simply divine and we loved picking over it and detecting the flavours and trying to decide which was our favourite, like excited children we would try a new morsel and say oooh quick try this one its my favourite. It was exciting to eat and pleasing to the palate.
For mains I decided to continue the seafood theme and chose the Salmon and Scallops. It was beautifully presented with 3 portions of sweet potato mash with a piece of rare salmon and 2 prawn crumbed things with a scallop and caviar. Each mouthful was like a rainbow in my mouth :)
The b'friend chose the Duck Violet which was one of the specials consisting of a duck breast on rhubarb and something mash with a red wine sauce, was very exotic tasting spicy but sweet but tart all in one. Very nice but also very rich. I definitely won in the choosing stakes.
After all of this there was no way we could fit in dessert, even to share.
A piano player came and played for about half of our meal and was just spectacular, you cannot beat the sound of a live piano resonating off the wooden floor boards. Our waiter (I wish I got his name) was professional and efficient and oh so likeable.
Would be honoured to eat here again.

-
I had been here before, not long after it opened about 3-4 years ago, for a private function. We booked the restaurant out, and were treated to a night of Japanese finger food and what in Spanish would have been tapas... and it was fabulous.
I'm surprised it has taken me this long to return there as a paying customer - but return I did, with my partner and another couple (one of whom was celebrating his 70th birthday, and the choice of Japanese was his. The choice of restaurant was mine).
A BIG advantage for us was that the restaurant is BYO - so a six-pack of Asahi beer accompanied some Pewsey Vale Riesling and Gewurztraminer. These fitted the bill perfectly, as it turned out.
The restaurant offers a range of hot or cold tasting plates (for 2) for entree, and my guests duly dived head first into one. They were initially a little dissatisfied with the size of the plate (a small quantity for $33 but a range of morsels).....
..... until they got to main course, and fully sated themselves with what was offered. The initial tasting plate may have appeared lean, but was the perfect foil for what was to follow. Not surprisingly in a Japanese restaurant, seafood was the order of the day for the majority of my party, and I am advised that it was "bloody good".
For myself (who doesn't eat seafood) the options were limited, but especially as I love duck, I came out of it well, too. Duck Violet (not 'violent') was an intriguing dish and it surprised me with the combination of ingredients and subsequent dominant flavours (no, violet didn't dominate). Like most well-prepared Japanese food, the attention to detail and delicate combination of flavours is paramount, and we were definitely impressed on this occasion.

-
It's amazing that so far nobody has written a review on our very favourite restaurant. If you love all that is Japanese and a lot more then this little gem must not be missed. Perhaps its location on the Northbridge/Highgate border has kept it hidden for us lucky ones, but from the customer's point of view it is quiet and there is ample parking.
Owner/Chef Muneki's creativity, presentation and excellent preparation must make him Perth's equivalent of Sydney's Tetsuya at a fraction of the price. Best described as Japanese Fusion, it's a bit like Christmas, eagerly anticipating what's on the specials board.
Last night we started with lightly poached oysters wrapped in sashimi salmon with a deliciously different sauce and a stack of sashimi interlaced with green leaves and with all the right accompaniments. Mains were a gastronomic delight with a stunning dish of Toothfish and scallops magnificently presented with most unusual accompaniments and a generous ?Tuna steak with Soft shelled Crab.
Nine is not licensed but for us this is a plus as we can trot out our best from the cellar to accompany the wonderful food without excessive cost.
A cool but low key guitarist plays periodically and the total bill of $89 ended the evening perfectly.
