Nothing spectacular at all. The mains we had were what one might expect at a cafe. Considering this is supposed to be a somewhat upmarket Italian venue it fails to hit the spot with dish content, preparation and presentation - that was pretty flat. Not saying that the food was bad - it just didn't meet our expectations at all
Service is prompt however the waiting staff are young and appear inexperienced.
Not much
Overall:
Not worth the money for 2 x three course meals
Pretty average considering this is supposed to be a really good Italian restaurant - we actually suspected two of our four mains had seen the inside of a microwave en- route to our table - (boy they were hot and truly streaming!). All four of us were not at all impressed with what we were served in all three courses.
Absolutely awful - a student who told us he was on a work visa worlds tour and although a nice chap had no clue on what a waiter was required to deliver (he ended up having a beer with us)
AWFUL - Looped pop music on monitors and bright lights bare brick showing (modern decor) - not to mention the adverting DVD.
Overall:
Not good - sorry - plenty of other Albany venues until they lift the bar
I'm no cook but honestly? I could do better! The first time we went I had a lovely gnocchi and hubby had some pasta dish. They were quite nice. The second time we went the food was really not good at all and, with the tourist season has amply reduced in size. The food was extremely expensive for the content.
Awful. On the first occasion we had a humourless chap take our orders. There seemed to be a very loud and aggressive lady working there talking about her private life and complaining. On the second visit the same lady was shouting at the chef during the whole visit. We said we wouldn't return.
Guess be ok sitting outside in the daytime for a coffee. In the evening, pretty drab...well that's just our experience with all the moaning and shouting going on!
Overall:
Yeah pretty grim, we would never return.
My brother and I decided to try out Nonna's $16 lunch + drink specials. I ordered the meat lover's pie and he got the usual seafood crepe. Our beers were served with ice cold mugs - the best part of the meal. The pie was deflated but quite meaty with a thin flaky pastry, and came with a bit of salad and chips. The crepe was medium-sized and filled with overcooked seafood mix in a creamy sauce.
Service was ok.
Overall:
Overall the meal was not too bad, although i was expecting a bigger serve for 16 bucks.
We visited Nonna's because our regular Italian was full. The experience was extremely disappointing. We ordered a seafood salad and Pork loin chop on stir fried vegetables. All the food was overcooked including the seafood, the salad was soggy and the stir fried vegetables were an unidentifiable sludgy mixture.
Service was over zealous
In a great setting in York Street but the ambience of the restaurant is diminished by the outdated furnishings and looping PowerPoint presentation showing the specials, a weird impersonal touch
Overall:
extremely disappointing, won't be going back

Nonna's was a minor highlight in what was a culinary disappointing visit to Albany. While not as grand as it once was, Nonna's still dishes up decent Austro-Italian fare from the bottom end of York St. The seafood in particular was good, with a 'hotpot' of prawns, scallops and mussels proving a highlight. Deserts were disappointing but a bottle of Alkoomi Sauvignon Blanc kept the evening above average.
Overall:
We went in here very hungry after a whale-watching tour and opted for the $15 option whereby you can pick from a number (perhaps 15?!) choices of dish, all of which cost $15 and that includes a drink. If it's not served within 15 minutes I think you get to eat free or some such deal.
My partner and I both opted for the calamari. It was served with chips (extremely good!) and a small side salad. We both agreed that in terms of value for money, the $15 deal really isn't at all. The quality of food was good but the quantity was most definitely on the mean side.
Their main menu was appealing and varied - on the pricey side but I'm sure having 'sampled' from their budget menu that the quality would be good.
Service was slick, maybe even slightly rushed and also a little on the unfriendly side.
