  • Cook your own meat so cannot comment on that, salad bar looked very half hearted. Glad wrap was still on bowls??? not much to choose from and considering it is cold weather you would think that they would have warm food of some sort??

  • Food service was good, but bar staff could do with more customer service training. He was pretty rude and surly, and he needs to get a sense of humor!

  • Used to come here many years ago and can tell you that it was good then but now its absolute rubbish. We wouldnt bother going but its the closest pub to our house when we just want a quick meal with the parents.

  • The family wanted a lazy Sunday lunch so we decided to go to the Ogdens Bar and Grill before heading over to the Gosnells Railway Market.

We arrived at 11.30 and were informed that lunch does not start till 12 pm. That was alright by us. They also had free newspaper left over from the buffet breakfast that you can take which I think is a nice plus.

We sat ourselves in the railway cart as the wife wanted something quaint and different and it also kept our little busy bee occupied. The other alternatives were just the normal tables or dining outside. The outside area was populated with smokers so we were not too keen.

Come 12 pm, we went to place our order. I had the grilled chicken burger ($15.50) and the wife had the fish and chips ($18).

All mains also came with a complimentary salad buffet.

The grilled chicken burger was a fair size served with salad, chips, avocado in an aoli dressing. It was nice and tasty, chicken was grilled nicely without being too charred.

The fish and chips was barramundi and as far as the wife and myself reckon, it was fresh. Does not taste of being frozen. Batter was nice and firm, did not crumble to pieces or get soggy.

The salad buffet has an adequate spread of different vegetables, some pasta and cut fruits. They also had bread rolls which were nice and fluffy.

Our busy bee shared our dishes and a bit of the fruit salad. And the staff were courteous enough not to kick up a fuzz unlike some other places which they view as a no-no.

Service was pretty quick too, I must say. From the time we placed the order to it being served was about 5-10 minutes.

But why the 1 star rating? Please read on, dear fellow reader.

After placing our meal order, I decide why not have a drink especially since they have Guinness on tap. Ok, so walk to the bar and stood in front of the cash register. There was a server counting out the float. She looked up, noticed me and then went back to her counting. No "Wait a minute", "When I done here" or even "Sorry, I'm a bit busy, if you don't mind waiting"

Ok, benefit of a doubt given, stood there and waited. She counted the float, put it into a cash box and then place in on the shelves with the drinks and walked away. NOPE! She didn't come back, didn't ask another colleague to see if I needed help or anything. I think she circled the bar 2-3 times, look around, saw me gesturing for service and proceeded to walk to the other end.

I must say, that was the most disgusting example of lack of service I have experienced. At the risk of sounding patronising and snobbish, even in Singapore where I come from, at least I get a sneer and a curt "what u want?"

Ok, that got me into a huff, so off I went to eat my lunch, swearing never to get a drink. However, it's hard to swallow a burger with no water so the wife, being nice and saintly, decided to get 2 glasses of water.

She approached the same server unfortunately. The server again left her standing there while she attempted to perform a zen like state of ignoring customers. The wife was fortunately rescued by another server who gave her the 2 glasses of water.

In summation, the food is lovely and of a good size, the ambience is nice and comfortable. The service from the grill staff is unfaultable and quick. Bar staff needs lots of improvement and perhaps a re-education in the provision of service. Good food and place let down by one staff member.

If anybody goes there, perhaps they can confirm or dispute my experience? This bar staff was wearing a greyish/black short sleeve shirt, black hair done in a ponytail and has a studded belt. Oh and the most noticable feature, she does not smile. It's a perpetual frown as if she is constipated or irritated.
