Three of us headed to Old Cottage Cafe last Friday night for dinner. I've been there once before for a coffee and cake and was keen to experience dining there.

The cafe is a converted weatherboard cottage; it's charming and full of character with arts and crafts adorning parts of the interior.

Upon arrival we were immediately greeted and seated, we sat outside under the verandah which was pleasant.

The menu is all reasonably priced and offers something for everyone.

After much deliberating we decided to share a plate of Turkish bread and dips for entree and I decided upon the chicken and Mushroom crepe which came with a salad for mains.

The service throughout the night was attentive and friendly, it almost feels like you are at a friends place for dinner.

All the food was tasty, I really enjoyed my crepe, the sauce wasn't overbearing or too rich and we had a truly lovely dining experience.

My cousin ordered the lamb shank which was a huge serving. All the servings were decent sized, I couldn’t fit in dessert although I managed to squeeze in a coffee the meal.

For a casual restaurant this place is a true standout if you’re in the area be sure to try it!

Four of us went to the Old Cottage last Thursday evening on the spur of the moment. My husband and I have had many a breakfast and lunch at this most delightful cottage. BYO is a bonus and the ambience is quite intriguing with local arts and crafts set around the place. The service was first class and knowing the size of the servings I opted for 2 entrees. Firstly starting with a bruschetta mixed with fetta on a garlic bread style. My second entree was a calamari in a teriyaki style sauce. Delicious. My fellow munchers all tucked in to garlic prawns, chicken Caesar salads and specials of the day. No complaints from any of them. This is a favourite of mine because it is always so reliable whether it is breakfast in the garden, lunch on the verandah or dinner in the cottage. I highly recommend.

i had the pleasure today of having lunch with the catswhiskers, we chose the cottage cafe and i must say that it turned out to be a good choice! This place was really busy and i would say i lovely place to spend an afternoon or breakfast. I was v hungry and so to start off i ordered the garlic bread, which came out promptly and was fresh and tasty, for mains i ordered the spicy king prawn salad and it was lovely, cat had the seafood marinara and assured me that it was good with plenty of fresh seafood. Prices are reasonable and staff seem friendly. Would recommend this place...

Came here for a family gathering of 19 people for dinner tonight. I'll try keep this review short, since they've been getting rather long lately.

It's a nice place - casual and relaxed. Not too ideal for massive bookings - our area for 19 was a bit squishy, but still ok.

Service was great - even with our large table and the rest of the restaurant quite busy, we were well taken care of and all food came out very fast.

Food was quite good. Large serves, and all tasted very nice and fresh. Had that "home cooking" feel to it which suits the place well. Unfortunately several of our steaks were cooked more than asked for - my medium rare barely had a trace of pink anywhere in it... but it was still tender and the sauce made it nice and moist. Coffee and deserts were all nice.

Prices were good, especially considering the serving sizes. Oh, it's not licensed, so BYO if you want anything alcoholic.

Nice place overall - deserving of the attention it's been getting recently.

Spur of the moment, decided to call in here for Saturday brekkie. Relatively empty, so we were able to grab a table on the verandah with the muted sunshine pouring through the plastic blinds. Pretty gardens to look out onto as well as some chooks wandering about.

Our trainee waitress was quite good despite her lack of experience. Minor hiccup with cutlery was sorted relatively promptly. Had the chicken and mushroom crepe with my guest having a big brekkie. My huge crepe was crammed full of chunks of breast chicken and fresh mushrooms in a mustard and parmesan creamy sauce and accompanied by salad. Huge and tasty. The big brekkie consisted of two fried eggs, three rashers of bacon, two little sausages, half a dozen grilled mushrooms, one fried tomato and two slices of hot buttered toast. Again very large and very tasty. Neither of us could finish our meals but the pot of English Breakfast tea was a lovely accompaniment.

Altogether a lovely way to spend Saturday morning and so much better than going on a crowded Sunday. Much more relaxing.

This lovely little cafe in the Swan Valley has chooks running along outside amongst the tables as well as aviaries placed alongside the verandah. I have been here several times over the years and have never been disappointed in the quality or freshness of the food. Service has at times been a bit dodgy but nothing overly remarkable, except maybe delivery times of meals when busy.

Large serves, so don't over order. Currently closed for renovations, so my review and ratings are based on prior to that. Just remember this is a BYO which is a bit of a rarity in the Swan Valley.
