Olivers on James St

Olivers on James St

Olivers restaurant is the perfect place to enjoy a casual dinner with friends or an intimate dinner for two. The surroundings are comfortable and simply stylish with a warm and welcoming feel. The service is friendly, attentive and egar to please!!

The menu at Oliver's is influenced greatly by the Head Chef/Proprietor Wayne Willshers extensive international experience. The U.K born chef has trained with some of the best and is now very passionate about bringing it all to the table at his Debut Restaurant in Northbridge. Everything is made on the premises by his team of highly skilled and dedicated chefs. There really is something for everyone on the menu ranging from M.S.A grade char-grilled steaks and freshly grilled fish from the market to the extensive range of pizzas from the wood fired oven.

The selection of food designed to share, is really causing something to talk about at Oliver's ......for example the "Spanish Tapas Plate" and the "International Cheese Board" with speciality breads are being washed down with Carafes of carefully selected house wines and vintages ports at this very moment !! Before you leave you must also try the "Dessert Tasting Plate"..........its a sumptuous selection of desserts from the menu served with homemade ice-cream and shortbread.

Tues- Thurs 4:30pm-10:00pm

Fri - Sun 11:00am - 10:30pm.

  • We just had a main meal because we were in a large group and noticed that the sizes of the meals were quite large. I had the fish with prawns and my partner had the veal marsala. My fish was quite nice but slightly over cooked, the prawns were cooked perfectly and i enjoyed the sauce that came with it. My partner enjoyed his marsala but he did say that he has had better.

  • The mains came out very sporadically. By the time my partner finished his meal, mine finally came out. It was badly thought out and was not handled very well. We only got 2 drinks out of the drinks waitress and then never saw her again. The worst part was we couldn't order drinks from the bar

  • Not good for large groups as it seems that the kitchen must be tiny. Waitresses took probably 5 orders at a time then went to kitchen to hand them in, and then came back out and took another 5 orders. With 25 + people there, this took a long time.

  • Had a tapas plate to share between two, a duck risotto and fish (barramundi) and chips for mains, and home made ice cream and choc fudge brownie for dessert. With 2 lemon, lime bitters and a peppermint tea the bill came to $111.00. The tapas was nice, especially the turkish bread. Risotto was bland except for the salt. My friend seemed happy with his fish. The brownie was delicious but quite rich.

  • Very attentive staff. Polite and friendly. Had a dirty glass but I let the waitress know and she replaced with an apology. After entree, friend had put his cutlery on the entree plate but the waitress put it back on the table. Would have been better to bring a new set and take the dirty ones.

  • We sat outside. It was quite a nice night and not noisy on the street so we could hear each other quite easily. The inside looked cosy too. They had the wood-fire oven going which was attention catching.

  • Reasonable food. A bit pricey for what you get (taste wise) - there are other places that you could go to get similar types of food that are a little bit cheaper. However, nice setting and the staff were attentive.

  • We had oysters for entree. The restaurant offered a dozen of Natural, Kilpatrick and a Shallot/Vinegar one. The oysters were definitely fresh and well shucked. Each flavour was enjoyable, however the natural ones lacked a bit of juice. Oysters were served on a bed of salt and well presented, however ice would have been preferable as the natural oysters were temperate. For mains, me and my partner ordered the Fish of the Day and the snapper. The fish of the day was Sweetlip in beer batter, with skinny chips and aoili. The fish was great, with a good amount of chips and dip. My partner had the Snapper which was pan fried, served with mash and prawns. The prawns and mash were delightful, but the fish was not cooked evenly, but still tastey.

  • Waiters were attentive; however we were served by 4 different waitresses. When told the specials for the day, including the oysters, we were told one selection but on ordering were told different, confusing the matter. We asked for a mixed dozen of oysters and they were happy to oblige.

  • Arrived without a booking and were given a window seat. Very nice setting, and good character. The place mats however were bamboo and cane style and appeared to hard to clean, as some food could be seen on the surface. The place was quite busy by the time we left, but wasn't noisy or overcrowded.

  • This was a really nice experience for our three month anniversary... However a few minor hicups with our order, including the wrong bottle of wine being served (and not realised until bill time) tarnished the experience a little. That said, the staff were very obliging with our requests, including the correction of the bill at the end. We will definitely be back.

  • We have dinned at Olivers 5 or 6 times over the years and have never been disappointed. The food is absolutely fantastic and is such a reasonable price...homemade deserts for only $8.50, cocktails for $11! Their garlic bread is the best ive ever had, they serve it in a 'log' form which makes it easier to divide if you are dinning with a big group. I am vegetarian so it is pleasing to see a restaurant which offers 4 to 5 vegetarian options instead of the usual canneloni offered by most other restaurants..great for something different!

  • We usually book a table but the last Saturday we went we decided just to chance it. It was 745pm, and we managed to get the last available table. No sooner then 30 seconds past before another couple had to be turned away because of no more room. So bookings are essential! The food and service are always exceptional, and is my favourite place to dine in perth. I have never had a bad experience there so highly recommend it!!!

  • My husband and I recently went to Olivers for our first wedding anniversary. I spoke to Wayne, the head chef & proprietor regarding a 'special desert' incorporating our wedding cookies and he more than obliged. We also received complimentary olives when we were seated, and complimentary bailies on completion of dinner. As for the food - well it was absolutely scrumptious! We couldnt fault it! I highly recommend the fried brie for starters, the dukkah crusted lamb, and you MUST try waynes famous brownie - it melts in your mouth! I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a special or romantic night of dining.

  • Our waiteresses paid us attention whilst still providing us with privacy. All of the girls were cheerful and pleasant. Wayne himself keeps an eye on the floor and thats probably why things run so smoothly! Its the extra touches and attention to detail such as that which really makes this place stand

  • This restaurant is capturing attention - and deservedly so. People who did not make a reservation were finding it difficult to get a table at all, or at least not without a short wait. I would recommend booking ahead!!! This place is only going to get busier when people discover the awesome food, reasonable prices and good service - not to mention the brownie, which i would go book for all by itself!!!

  • The food was absolutely amazing! I had their garlic bread for my entree and also got to taste some of the dips from the Turkish bread plate. The garlic bread was delicious - possibly the best I've ever tasted and the olive dip I tried was really good too. I had their fillet steak for my main dish. It was cooked perfectly and was very succulent & juicy and the sauce and garlic mash was very good. I was so full by the time I had finished my meal that I could hardly even attempt to taste the chips that we had ordered, but they were delicious. As far as I know, the others at our table were very happy with their meals, too.

  • We were probably a very loud group, but we had no trouble holding conversations, not sure about the other diners. I didn't notice much about the inside of the restaurant except the fact that they had a huge wine selection and that I liked the paintings on the walls.

  • Overall we had a fantastic night. Everyone there went out of their way to make sure I had an enjoyable evening and I'm glad I chose Oliver's to celebrate my birthday. When the bill arrived, I was surprised that it seemed quite low, considering there were 11 of us and we all ordered cocktails and wine. I would definitely go there again and recommend them to everyone I know.
