Every single detail in this wonderful restaurant Opus is given the greatest care. The refined atmosphere, the attentive yet unobtrusive service and superb cuisine are sure to make a memorable dining experience. Vegetarian and special dietary requirements can be catered for.

Interior design, by Scott Wilson, has produced a feeling of "modern old-fashioned" elegance which pervades throughout the restaurant, achieved by a combination of sophisticated formal gestures and an indulgent palette of natural materials. The rich, warm, timeless appeal of Opus provides an opulent, luxurious backdrop for superb dining unlike any other Perth restaurant.

Opus boasts its own Wine Annex; the raised semi-private section of the restaurant displays a library of fine wines against a natural stone backdrop.

A Private Dining Room is separated from the main restaurant by frameless sliding glazed panels. Designed to comfortably seat fourteen (14) guests, it provides an inviting respite for a private party or special occasion.

Food:

The food was excellent here. My fiance and I had the best meal since we ate at Red Cabbage. Not only was the food beautiful and imaginative the quality and taste was to die for. The Beef recommended by the waiter was excellent and their berry dessert was something I have never eaten before and it just knocked my socks off.

Service:

The waiter, Nathan, was excellent. His humor and pleasant nature really added to our meal. The matire'd was also very polite and the service time was exceptionally quick and precise.

Ambience:

The restaurant is great. Nice lighting, great seats, plus it feels high class without acting overly high class and pompous. The only down side is the physical location of the place, but you can't do much about that.

Overall:
This was a fantastic place. I would recommend it for couples, friends, groups, anyone looking for a great meal. It is priced similar to Red Cabbage or Indiana Tea House, but my fiance believes it tops both of those. This is a place where you really get what you pay for. IT is a MUST try for Perth fine dining.

Overall:
An anticipated visit to opus on friday 25th January 2008 was a let down after all we heard.

Not being seafood eaters, we were disappointed with the heavy emphasis on fish on the menu. We opted for the red capsicum soup and the rib eye steak.

The soup was a very small portion and was without any great depth of taste, a small touch of pepper or chilli may have enlivened it some.

The steak came with a choice of side sauces and was very tender although not cooked to our order and was too under done for my wife to eat. Side dishes of potato and vegetables were nice, but again very small.

The desserts looked very nice but we passed, settling for coffees and these came with complimentary petit fours which were amble instead of a dessert.

Service was poor at best and I found some staff outrightly rude, although our main waitress was very good and deserved a tip.

the decor is funky 70's retro, but overall it is pricey for what you get. Our rib eye was $43.00, given the quality it was worth it if it had been cooked to our liking.

Overall a negative experience

Overall:
Opus is situation within the new Richardson Hotel in West Perth. Stylishness and chic interior, guest can also dine in the enclosed courtyard (one for the warmer nights).

I started off with the ‘Seared Yellow Fin Tuna with Sesame Seeds, Grilled Zucchini and Bocconcini’, which came out looking like a piece of art, very fresh and tasty, my wife had the ‘Glenloth Pigeon Breasts with Corn Puree, Broad Beans and Chorizo’, this was fantastic, never knew pigeon tasted so good.

A big point needs to be made about the service at Opus, best word to describe it is meticulous. Example, when I booked I let them know my wife was pregnant, so when we were about to order the waiter asked if she wanted something specially made up by the chief or anything on the menu changed to her liking. In addition they made up a special complimentary mini desert especially for her (and that was after our main dessert ha!) which made her feel very special indeed.

Anyhow, back to the food.. For mains I order the ‘Grilled Barramundi Fillet with a Tiger Prawn Israeli Cous Cous and Herbed Potato Crisp’, which was exactly what I was after, fresh fish cooked to perfection. My wife had the ‘Char-Grilled Stockyard Beef Tenderloin and Braised Beef Cheek Ravioli with Forest Mushroom Sauce’, I snuck a taste, melt in your mouth kind of meat, yum.

To finish off we shared the ‘Chocolate Trilogy’ (chocoholics, this one’s for you!) and the ‘Homemade Ice-Cream Selection’. All our meals were wonderfully presented, attentive service coupled with an extensive wine list and a unique menu. I would definitely recommend Opus for that fine dining experience.

Overall:
In a word; Meticulous.

Fantastic meal, very impressive winelist.

Staff very attentive and outstandingly polite, as you would expect of a boutique hotel.
After a cocktail each at the bar we were lead to an outstandingly presented table, think layered tablecloths, three each of cutlery and glassware and a rapidly produced taster of raw salmon.

The Scallops with crab and blood orange entree was tastefully presented and tasted fantastic. For mains I ordered the Red Emperor stuffed with Ox Tail Ragout for no other reason than I could not believe the chef dared combine those flavours. While I thought they worked fantastically it was mentioned by the chef later in the evening not all agree with me.

Overall it was a glorious dining experience in very nice, modern surrounds, I would recommend it to anyone, especially special occasions.
