Overall:
We always head for Pronto if we're in need of a reliably delicious Italian meal out. On this occasion we were feeling the mid-week blues and needed an excuse not to cook and Pronto provided exactly that.
We skipped the entrées and decided to go straight for mains. Instead of the usual favourites, we were tempted by two of the evening's specials (as tough as it is to turn down a delicious Pronto Pizza or Pasta). I went for the oven roasted rabbit in a white wine caper sauce served with roasted potatoes and broccoli. My companion went for the fish of the day, which was coral trout served with blanched greens and potatoes.
My Rabbit was superb. It had obviously been roasted to perfection because this typically lean game meat was very succulent and not at all dry. The white wine sauce was a wonderful compliment, with just enough salty/piquant capers and a hint of lemon zest to compliment the meat perfectly.
The trout was perfectly cooked and the dish was testament to the fact that great quality produce demands very little else than respectfully simple cooking.
An added highlight was the quality of the accompanying vegetables. So often side vegetables are slapped on a plate seemingly out of obligation by many kitchens, but both the broccoli and the blanched greens were cooked perfectly al dente and very much added to the meal instead of simply making up bulk. The potatoes were likewise perfectly roasted and were ideal to mop up the last of the juices
We finished with a very well made affogato which just capped the evening off nicely.
Service was as usual professional and helpful without being intrusive.
The atmosphere in this narrow restaurant is always great with a warm and friendly vibe, perfect for a smaller number of people.
