Fab! - The tasting platter was great - with scrumptious curry spiced lamb cutlets, we ordered beef fillet with parsnip mash & haluomi and barramundi with mash, something you can get and have had similar at many places - although theses were wonderful and so much better than we have both had anywhere else before.

Service:

Fantastic - When we aksed for a different seat it was not a problem. Timing was great - water straight away, then ordering, entree and main just flowed.

Ambience:

Enjoyable, cool, not squashed in. It is a shame that the view was not taken more advantage off. Try to get an outside spot otherwise only view is great eastern highway.

Overall:
We went for lunch during the weeks and meals were from a lunch special, I think each meal was about $20. Will definitely go back - think it would be great for a group dinner or if we are lucky to get a day off during the week together again will definitely be back there for lunch again.

SUPERB!! the meals were very tasty, filling and well decorated... we only waited 15 for our meals... (early evening) the prices are very low for what you get.. the menu consist of such a broad range of foods, mainly seafood but they have steaks, grills and even curries..

Service:

great! when ever we needed someone they were near by... our glasses were topped up throughout the meal... they were all very friendly

Ambience:

The food was great. We had Oysters Kilpatrick as an initial starter which were lovely. Followed this with an entree of Chilli mussels, Salt and pepper Squid and Chilli and Gralic prawns. Each dish was exactly as stated in the menu and heaven to eat. Cray fish and Fish for the mains which were also great and left us too full to even contemplate dessert!

Service:

The service was great. Prompt and efficient, friendly and not overbearing

Ambience:

Even though the restaurant was full, it wasn't too noisy and you could quite easily converse with your table. Will definitely ask to sit on the terrace part on our next visit to make the most of the river views!

Overall:
Will definitely be returning. Could not have asked for a better evening. The food and service were faultless! Lovely place to dine

Eight of us went on Saturday and ordered three courses each. Everything was delicious, generous servings, well presented and well priced. No-one had anything negative to say about their food. It was delicious from entree to dessert.

Service:

The service was great, from the moment we entered the restaurant to leaving the staff were very attentive. We took our own wine which was opened immediately and the beers were brought very quickly. All courses were delivered promptly and with very friendly smiling staff. No complaints whatsoever.

Ambience:

The surroundings are very pleasant, nice and warm and friendly. Plenty of room between tables and nice clean restrooms.

Overall:
Overall this is a great place to dine. Everything was as you would expect when dining out. I will definately go here again and recommend it to friends. It's great to finally find a restaurant that meets all expectations.

The Food was absolutely divine. Serving sizes were huge. There were 6 of us, and we had 4 different meals between us and all were delicious. I highly recommend the 'Ocean and Earth'. It was amazing!

The staff were attentive without being annoying. Service was prompt and polite.

The restaurant was busy when we were here. It served us fine as a family catchup.

I would definitely come back here. The food was fantastic, served quickly, and the BYO option is great. Especially with a bottle shop right next door.

Every time we go to the Red Cray we enjoy tasting their food. There's not just variety, the dishes are well presented & cooked to perfection every single time. The seafood platters are a burst of flavours. The crayfish mornay & thermador are exellent. Although not a lover of raw oysters you must try them cooked ....yum.
Very well priced for all dishes on the menu.
"ABSOLUTELY DELECTABLE"

Dont you just love great organised service from polite smiling staff. We did & do.

A lovely atmosphere in the place each time.

Overall:
Great place for dining out, evening the kids enjoy it. I always recommend "The Red cray" to my family/friends. Dont leave it to the last minute to decide to eat there as they have a great reputation & are always fully booked, but im never surprised at that, knowing what i know about the excellence of the place.

This is definitely one of the best seafood restaurants in Perth! We have been here a quite a few times now and it is always PACKED! no matter which night you go on! (make sure you book ahead of time!). The Crayfish Royale is divine and my favorite! and the Barramundi is very nice too.. though one time we ate there, my partner had the Veal.. and it was not too great... I think next time we go, we will give the seafood platter a go.

Service:

The service was of quite high level. The only issue that brought me down was having to converse with one girl who could not understand what I wanted, as her English was very poor.

Ambience:

Restaurant decor is quite nice.. and the table & seating layout was comfortable. We sat out in the glassed/alfresco area once, but the chairs aren't that great. I also like how you can see the goings-on in the kitchen, if you are in the vicinity..

Overall:
Everyone that worked in this restaurant always had smiles on their faces, which is always nice to see.. and you can tell they enjoy their job.. this makes for a more enjoyable meal. I wonder if this place has a dress-code, as some of the patrons that come in seem a bit off-putting and rowdy. Overall, this is a great restaurant with great food and lovely staff.

Very good food, well-presented and nicely proportioned. The steaks looked generously cut and cooked to perfection, but the best value is the Red Cray Seafood Platter for two. Not your usual fish platter, but gourmet-style preparation and served in little plates. Definitely worth the cost of $65.00. The only downside is the cost of the crayfish dishes, as although they weren't over-priced, the sizes of the rather small crayfish didn't justify the what you pay for. The waitstaff do pre-warn you that the crays are small, so unless you're on a diet and wish to have a small meal, this would be suitable. My fellow diners told me that their cray meals were delicious, but not enough to be considered more than an entree for the half sizes.

Service:

Excellent service by well-groomed, professional, attentive, unintrusive, stylishly-uniformed and courteous waitstaff. I could not flaw their work that night

Ambience:

I liked the ambience, with good, comfortable lighting, clean and relaxing layout.

Overall:
A large group of 12 of us visited this restaurant on 13SEP08. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for groups, birthday celebrations and family dining as an occasional outing. I enjoyed my evening and would definitely dine here again.

Food:

We ordered the Red Cray platter for two, which was good value at $65. It consisted of three types of fish, 2 fresh oysters, 2 oysters kilpatrick, chilli mussels, 2 cooked (but cold) prawns, calarami rings, garlic prawns and chips. The food was fresh and tasty. Portion sizes were generous. The fish could be less greasy - the batter seemed to take away from the natural flavour. The platter lacked rice and sauces on the side (tartare sauce or a lemon butter sauce).

Service:

The service was good - the waiters were very attentive and friendly. Food was delivered promptly - even though the restaurant was busy.

Ambience:

The restaurant was busy but not too noisy. Tables are spaced sufficiently. Decor is simple but adequate.

Overall:
A good experience - will go back again.

The food here was absolutely delicious! We came here for my Dads 50th and were very impressed. Two of our party had the crayfish which was a decent price and they enjoyed it very much! Fish & Chips were also ordered by other people on our table and they really enjoyed the fish and the chips were delicious too - not greasy at all. I had the spaghetti marinara and I must say its the best marinara I have ever had! It was HUGE so I couldn't finish it all but was an absolute delight!!

Service:

The staff were fantastic! Very attentive to our needs, stored the birthday cake for us as requested and brought it out with candles already lit etc & sang happy birthday with us. They didn't smother us but were always there when we wanted to order something else!

Ambience:

Lovely set up inside and your not too crammed in and can hear each other speak which is great! This place would be even better if it was located on a jetty somewhere etc.

Overall:
Overall a fantastic dining experience - will visit again for sure!!

Really tasty and decent portions. Some had lobster in the various ways (mornay, grilled etc), some had the snapper and some had the steak. Have to say the steak slabs were so thick! Not a complaint from any of us. Thoroughly enjoyable. The chips were great - they looked homemade, not sure if they were but they were a really good chip!

Service:

Eight of us came for a Friday lunch and service was fine to start with but seemed to die off after the meals were served, which meant we had to seek waitstaff to replenish our drinks. This could have been attributed to the fact we were in the glassed area at the back of the restaurant.

Ambience:

We were in the glassed off area that overlooked the river so that was nice, especially with the warm winter sunshine coming through.

Overall:
A great place for a feed. I can't wait to go back to try out some more of the menu!

I had beef fillet and was disappointed, it wasn't a very good cut. However my partner also had beef and his was great so I guess I was just unlucky on the night. Others had Barramundi which was good and Royale lobster which was fantastic, it came with the best rissotto ever!!

Service:

Aboslutely fantastic!! Very attentive and very cheerful.

Ambience:

We sat at the back of the restaurant and you get a view of the water, it was bliss.

Overall:
I feel my food let my experience down but have still given an okay score for the food because the rest seemed good, just mustn't have been my night.

Went last night for my birthday dinner, group of six. Considering it was a busy night being Valentine's Day I thought the service was excellent, our drinks were looked after and orders were taken quickly. Our food came out pretty fast as well. For starters we had the tasting plate, mini bread roll and oysters. The tasting plate is really good, I especially loved the whiting, and I think it was about $16. Mains I had barramundi on mash, it was quite a big piece of fish and tasted okay, maybe could have done with a bit more flavour but that's just me. Others had lobster, steak, prawns, chicken and spaghetti and there were no complaints. Most mains were between $20 and $30 with the whole lobster being $45 I think. All in all a good night was had.

We visited here on a Thursday night having booked a few weeks in advance with another couple. Both couples had the Executive Seafood Platter, which at $105 isn’t cheap, but I think its reasonable value compared with other seafood platters I’ve had in Perth. It had a whole crayfish on it after all! Overall the quality of the platter was very impressive. I also like the fact that it had kind of an Asian theme to it, teriyaki fish, curry crab cakes and coconut fish. It is a pity, given the proximity of the venue to the river, that all of the windows overlook Great Eastern Highway. One lowlight of the night was the waitress taking drinks who didn’t speak great English so we had to point out our drink selections from the menu. Also, the clientele was a bit bogan. Maybe I’m just being a snob, but would it kill you to NOT wear your flannel shirt and faded black jeans out to dinner?

I definitely wouldn’t recommend even thinking about this restaurant unless you have at least a week to plan ahead and book! I was lucky enough to get a booking for myself and my partner with only a few days notice on what seemed to be a very busy weekday night!

We decided to skip entrees this evening and went straight onto the mains, the barramundi and the lobster. My partner said the barramundi was the best he has ever had! My lobster was delicious, cooked perfectly and the accompanying sauce was delicious! Couldn’t eat it all! Only complaint was the size of the barramundi, my partner was left a little hungry and wanting more after such a great meal!

Was quite reasonably priced, less than I expected for what we had eaten! The staff were attentive and efficient but sometimes a little cold, seeming as though they were more worried about getting the job done than the service. Think they did a great job though as everyone seemed satisfied for such a packed out restaurant!

This is a very busy and obviously popular restaurant even for midweek lunches. The seafood platter for two is a classy dish with each element served in its own dish on a very large platter. This makes it enjoyable to eat and it is realistically priced for what you get.

Unfortunately they served up tepid coffee so losing half a star for food rating.

Service was attentive and efficient.

The dining area is bright and airy and not noisy. What a pity though that it looks out onto a busy highway and not the river behind it.

After trying on several occasions to unsuccessfully book a table we finally got to give this one a go.

A well deserved and rare night out for the parents (6 weeks post birth!) we were hoping for something romantic but came to the wrong place for that!

Very busy, bustling and packed with diners it was the opposite of romantic which is still ok if you are looking for something more lively. I guess it was Christmas time so it was bound to be busy.

The service was...standard. The waitress was obviously under the pump and trying hard but a few minor mistakes were made to ours and another close table. Oh well!

We started with Crumbed Calamari which was the best I have had and has totally converted me to the stuff which I have tried regularly but never really LOVED until now. Crunchy but with a soft and velvety centre, not in the least chewy or stringy.

Next we went for the Whole Crayfish - unadulterated and divine! Simply the best way to dine on Cray. It was succulent and the envy of other diners! Making sure to take our time we demolished every morsel and joining it with a Caesar salad we were quite stuffed at it's completion. No room at all for deserts but they didn't really entice enough to warrant gluttony anyway.

Overall a good night out (especially for the long weary parents) and despite a few hiccups came close to its reputation, especially on it's food.

Just remember to book long in advance on weekends and don't look for the quiet, dark corner!

We got married on the 8/12 & then went to the Red Cray for lunch to celebrate.
There were 11 of us & we were seated very quickly.

The restaurant was very full but our orders were taken quickly & we never had to wait for our food.

Drinks were always easy to order & quick to arrive.

The food was MAGNIFICENT!!

We had the seafood platter & a few had the Ocean & Earth. Others had the steak & curry. All were fabulously presented & so delicious.

I will rave about this place to everyone I meet.

Thank you Red Cray, for making my first meal as a married woman so special & delicious!!!!

Went there for the first time on the weekend, was recommended by a friend. The whole experience was great, the staff were pleasant and very friendly, unlike most places where the staff don’t care. The food was definitely the highlight, it was great, tasty, diverse menu. The prices were very reasonable, in fact I dine out quite regularly and it definitely was on of the cheapest seafood restaurants in Perth. This didn’t mean that the quality suffered because the food was great. I will definitely be back and will also recommend others there. Keep it up guys!!

Pleasant enough setting and decor near the river on the Great Eastern Highway. Service was a bit slow and impersonal but acceptable. The food was the real disappointment though. The prices are high and the menu promising enough but the results were dry and lacked any inspiration at all. The lobster was well minuscule, overcooked and shrivelled up. I may be generous in awarding this restaurant 3 stars.
