We ordered the mushroom bruschetta & 1841 share plate to start & then the stuffed chicken breast & duck ravioli for mains.
Absolutely delicious meals & very full by the end. The duck ravioli just melted in your mouth.
Would have looked forward to desserts but just could fit it

Service:
     
The girl that served us was great, had a great smile & just made us feel welcomed there. drinks arrived very quickly along with the food as well.

Ambience:
     
Overall, the ambience was great. We sat in the Posh Convict part of the restaurant & with the warmth of the fire going & the candles lit it was all very romantic

Overall:
Came in on a Saturday night ( without a booking ) & didn't realize how busy the place can get at night. The manager fitter us in which was great

I ordered the Dam & Paddock, a bit of marron on a steak. It was actually beautifully cooked and presented, however the steak was not seasoned and the baby bok choys weren't washed properly giving me a distasteful amount of grit to chew on. Two significant flaws that let down the most expensive item on the menu at $38.

My wife ordered the 'famous' lamb shanks. They smelt beautifully aromatic when they arrived but once she began eating it this aroma was replaced with a horrid muttony smell instead. The promised Asian spices which had been there in smell were non-existent in taste and again the meat was not seasoned. To round it all off the mash dissipated in the overly generous puddle of sauce on the plate leaving a sodden smelly mess.

My son's chips (off the kids menu) were the very first thing ordered and where most restaurants make an effort to get children's meals out FIRST, his chips were literally the LAST thing to arrive.

Ambience:
     
It is a beautiful setting. It has that going for it.

Overall:
Our young son was ordered chips & sauce off the kids menu. Someone else at the table ordered a side of chips & aioli. Both cost $6, however the "side" of chips was near twice as big as the kids serve? Why? My son was still hungry and we were then forced to order another side to keep him happy. Not only was this annoying from our perspective but its damn robbery!

Went here for my birthday Sunday at lunchtime. I had looked up the website, and though it's been "under construction" for the past year I accidentally stumbled upon a restaurant by the same name in SA and didn't realise it was a different restaurant. Oops! So I based my choice of venue on a different Rose & Crown, and spent the first few minutes of lunch rather discombobulated. Once I'd adjusted, I thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful Sunday afternoon in their lovely beer garden. We had Turkish bread with 2 dips and marinated olives for starters -- I can't recall exactly what they were, but one was creamy with a touch of gorgonzola and the other was chopped with possibly mushrooms & delicate flavouring. For main I had the scotch fillet, delicious and perfectly cooked medium rare with bacon wrapped beans, chips (but only a few) on a bit of mash with very nice gravy and béarnaise sauce. Dessert was "double chocolate nemesis cake", which didn't look very large but was rich enough that by the end I didn't care. On the negative side, 3 of the people at our table ordered their steaks rare and got them medium rare, and service, though pleasant, was not always very quick. Some of the serving sizes were not very large for the price, and it took ages for our initial request of water to be fulfilled. Basically, this was fine dining food (or nearly) and prices but without the ambience or service you expect at a fine dining establishment. There was a 10% surcharge for Sundays, which I thought was a bit unfair. As we left there were 2 guys just starting to play some music outside. All in all it was a lovely lunch, albeit expensive, and would be a lovely place for Sunday Sessions.

Overall:
I celebrated my birthday and engagement at the Rose and Crown's 'new bar' last weekend and was thoroughly impressed.

The bar staff's service was great and 'Marreka' who organised our function, was wonderful making sure everything ran well through the night.

My expectations were certainly exceeded and I look forward to celebrating future functions there.

We popped in for an early dinner on a Saturday night. Tables were all booked but they found us one in the garden. They wouldn't take a dinner order till 6pm, which was okay cos it was only a ten minute wait - time for a glass of wine and a look at the menu.

Once the hour struck, the service was pretty good, though looked like they had a big wedding function next door. The meals came out pretty quickly. Lovely garlic bread to start - way too much for two, but who's complaining. Good garlic bread needs chunks of garlic I say, and this had it.

For mains, I had the lamb shanks with mash and asian veg. Being hungry (greedy?) I had two, as you can choose to order a single shank too. My dining companion had a porterhouse steak with chips. My lamb shanks were divine, the meat fell off the bone and had really subtle but lovely asian flavours. Great, mash, great veg and jus, all in all a fantastic meal. My friend's steak was cooked just right and was a really good portion. Only gripe is that this is one of those places that won't let you substitute, how hard is it to replace chips with mash, when you know they have mash on the menu? Oh well. I let her have some of mine instead.

Great setting, off the main road so I didn't know it existed before this but well worth a visit. Maybe a little expensive, was $80 for 2 including a $20 bottle of wine, not too bad I guess. I'll definitely go back when I'm out that way. The rest of the menu looked good if I can go past those lamb shanks next time!

Had lunch a couple of times and absolutely fabulous.

Didn’t want to leave. Beer garden is sensational for lunch on a sunny day. Bit pricey but so enjoyable.

Staff very friendly. Food is A1.

Limited menu but quite satisfactory for a Sunday afternoon in the garden setting. Service is patchy and booking ahead is a good idea on warm, sunny Sundays.
