Food:

Pasta, pasta, pasta!

A bit expensive but enjoyable.
The Creamy ones are creamy.
The Tomatoey ones tomatoey.

The wines are pretty standard (but for australia, we're spoiled)

Service:

The waiters/resses are polite and know enough about the food. The waiter we had also did succeed on recommending a decent wine for our meal.

Ambience:

its on the main drag of vic park, so inside is a little... close. and outside can be noisy and with the occasional problem, but they present the place nicely and try their best.

Overall:
Good, bit expensive, but a nice dinner for all involved

3 of us attended 6pm on saturday night. We were told we had to order 3 mains for 3 people, even though we only wanted to share 2 pizzas and had ordered a bottle of wine (it is BYO). They would not let us order the Tasting Plate as a 3rd dish, as this was an "entree" but cost the same as a main???
Pizza's were average, doughy base and the "Rustico" pizza which listed italian sausage as the main ingredient had 4 pieces of sausage cut in half, and then they piled hardly cooked slices of tomato all over the pizza. You would get more flavour from a McCain's pizza for a 1/4 of the cost.
Ricotta Canneloni was our third dish, quite tast but the topping and crust suggest it had been frozen and reheated.

Service:

Terrible. See above and also the waitress did not know which wine on the wine list was the Pinot Gris and when I asked what was on the Chef's "Tasting Plate", I was told it was an Antipasto Plate, which to me is completely different to a Tasting Plate.

Ambience:

Quite surprising how dead this place was when walked in on a saturday night, (that should have been a warning right there) . I think they need to be more flexible with their "one dish per person" policy.

Overall:
I will not go back here again. There are so many better places to eat in Vic Park.

The party of 10 that i was with all ordered from the lunch specials menu. It was very hit and miss in regard to the quality of the meals ~ pasta is the wisest choice for best value.
I had the BLT which was quite literally 2 rashers of fried bacon, 2 cos lettuce leaves and 2 slices of tomato served on hard-as-nails, inedible bread.

Service:

The service we received was basic ~ the waitperson stood at the end of the long table, forcing those seated furthest from her to shout their orders.

Ambience:

Overall:
Sebastians menu is average Italian, not helped by its tired decor, with the overall result being disappointing.

My partner and I ordered some basic pasta dishes - carbonara and chicken pasta (forget dish name). Both were very filling and tasty.

The service was prompt and friendly.

The ambience was lovely. We sat outside and watched the busy Vic Park strip whilst we ate. It was well shaded and surprisingly quiet.

Overall:
Good quality food offering pleasant dining experience and value for money.

I have visited Sebastian's Italian Cafe twice now, unfortunately the food on the second ocassion was not as enjoyable as the first. My partner ordered a steak with a pepper sauce. The sauce tasted very much like chocolate sauce & when queried the waitress just giggled & was not of much assistance in rectifying it.

Service:

It was very busy both times we've visited Sebastian's, with a good 10 -15 minute wait to order on both ocassions.

Ambience:

We were seated outside on both visits. Rather cold and away from any ambient atmosphere.

I have eaten at Sebastian's several times over the past 2 years and have found the service and food to be quite consistent.

My partner and I decided to dine at Sebastian's last night, my 5th time there, his 2nd time. As we arrived at about 8:45pm on a Thursday night, and their normal closing time is 10pm, we found that the majority of the patrons were finished their meals and moving on, so I was sort of expecting to be turned away with a "sorry, the kitchen is closed", but we were happily seated for dinner.

The service was very prompt, as there were only about 10 tables with customers, 8 of which were either already on their mains or just ordering desserts and coffees. Even though it wasn't very busy, I have found the Sebastian's staff to be quite attentive, even on a busy Friday night dinner service.

Now, onto the food! Cozze (chilli mussels) and Calamari Fritti (squid) are two of my favorite entrees, however, with all the beautiful sauce that's left over after the mussels are gone, surely a crusty loaf of bread should be provided with this entree, and not purchased seperately? My partner and I believe that even a bowl of plain cooked pasta could be thrown into the sauce to make an excellent main course. The calamari is always very tender, not rubbery and overcooked as some sub-standard restaurants have come into the habit of serving. The aioli is okay, but my personal preference would be some chilli and lime added to it, or maybe even a selection/choice of aioli?

We both decided to have the Alfredo for our mains that is listed as "FAMOUS" on their menu, and I can see why. The sauce is lovely, the chicken perfect, the pasta al dente and the broccoli is beautifully cooked. Not too firm, not soggy.

The ambience is quite nice, with an open plan dining area where you have a good view of the bar and the wood-fired pizza oven. During a busy service (which is pretty much anytime between 12pm-3pm and 5:30pm-8pm) the restaurant can be quite noisy with all the bustle of bodies in conversation. I have read the restaurant has invested in a sound dampening agent (the fluffy stuff on the ceiling) that helps to muffle the noise of a conversation at the next table. It is quite an effective investment, unless you happen to be seated next to an overly boisterous group of people. Some things just cant be helped! So should you be in the mood for an intimate dinner for two and expect your conversation to be kept simply between yourself and your company, rest assured that it is possible at Sebastian's, even at capacity!

Overall, I find Sebastian's to be a great choice for good food, good service, and a good atmosphere. I will happily return again and recommend it to friends and family.

I recently visited Sebastians with my partner for a quite dinner for 2. Being an italian food lover and having heard about this place from a few people i had high expectations.

We started with Asian Plate and garlic prawns, we were very impressed with them being simple dished and just the right serving size to allow plenty of room for mains.

When it came to our mains i decided on the Vodka pasta and my partner decided on the Barramundi. The pasta was ok, i think that if a little stronger in flavour i would have enjoyed more, however having being on a no carbs diet i was really enjoying pasta again!! My partner being a big fish/seafood eater said that his Barramundi was the best that he has ever has and was cooked to perfection.

After all this there was no room left for dessert (my partner always manages to finish my meals for me)

On this particular night it was quite busy therefore sometimes being a bit loud, however the amount of people in the restaurant did not affect the service as we could not have asked for better/prompt service.

All in all we had an enjoyable night and will certainly be returning.

A group of 6 of us went to Sebastian’s recently for my birthday. It was a Wednesday night and as usual, most of the tables were taken. Around the table we had an assortment of entrees Crumbed sardines, an Asian Plate (which I always thought was a bit strange at an Italian restaurant) and two of our friends were very happy to see Deep Fried Camembert as an offering. We snacked on lovely garlic bread while we waited and had a bottle of our BYO wine opened. Despite being so busy, service was quick as always, and in no time everyone was tucking into their entrees with no complaints.
Mains consisted of a Spaghetti Marinara, Smoked Salmon Salad, Chicken Parmigiana, Lamb Shanks, a Scotch Fillet and Calamari and everything was delicious. I was really impressed with the side salads accompanying the meals, they were really fresh and contained marinated artichokes and capsicum, a slight step above the normal offering at many other restaurants. Our friends all really enjoyed their meals and we even found room for some Apple pie and Cookies and Cream Cheesecake. Everyone filled out the comment cards on the table as they all hoped to return with their birthday vouchers! We used mine so we got one free meal for the table and as there was more than 5 of us, we also had a free bottle of Hardy’s wine with out meal (we could have purchased a second bottle for $9). With a mixture of byo drinks, one free bottle and one purchased bottle of bubbles, we all enjoyed a 3 course meal for about $40 each. I think it is great value, the meals are a substantial size and really fresh and tasty and we always enjoy eating here, and we still get a laugh out of the ridiculously over-sized pepper grinder each time we see it.

On this cold rainy Tuesday night, a couple of friends and I decided we needed some comfort food, and finally settled on Sebastian's. The place was packed, and we only managed to get a table outside, next to the heaters.

The wait staff was courteous and well-organised. We ordered a pizza to share, a risotto di mare, the osso bucco and the lambshanks.

The wait wasn't too long, (about 20 minutes), which is decent, given that they were at near full capacity and during the peak time.

The pizza, the Primavera, which had pears and roquette on the top was quite tasty. The dough was cooked perfectly, and I liked the flavour combination.

The osso bucco is delicious! I could not finish it. Although, it was nicely cooked, with a rich tomato-based sauce, I thought it could have used some more complex flavours, or maybe it was meant to be simple. The mash potato under-seasoned.

My friend who had the lamb shanks, said it was absolutely delicious. I had a taste, and I have to agree, it was quite yummy.

The risotto didn't really please my other friend though. It was a little bit too runny to his taste.

All in all, it’s a nice cosy place, with decent food. But nothing really outstanding. I wouldn't mind coming back.

I have reviewed this restaurant before but thought I would give an update. Popped in for a quick lunch yesterday with my mum on our way to an appointment. Strangely enough, we were seated at the exact same table that still had a gust blowing through the gap in the door, although at least this time, the doors remained shut during our visit.

Starting with the Asian Tasting Plate, we found the four samosas and four mini spring rolls with sweet chilli sauce to be just the right amount of food to pacify the stomach growls while waiting for your mains, without filling you up. Both the samosas and rolls were tasty but light on filling as per most cocktail nibbles are.

Our lunches of calamari and salad, and chicken parmigiana and salad, both from the express lunch menu ($12 each) were pretty large and tasty. The calamari remained tender from start to finish. Unfortunately for me, my tastebuds aren't working the best due to the start of the flu, but there was enough to taste for things not to be bland to me. The one disappointment was that my salad (usual salad leaves with pickled Mediterranean vegetables mixed through as well as one piece of tomato, one piece of cucumber and one black olive - why only one of each?????) was not dressed, which I didn't think much about until afterwards when mum told me that hers had been. It may have made some of the leaves a little bit more interesting.

Can't beat the value and the service was greatly improved compared to the previous visit. Looking forward to another cheap meal there.

Every year Sebastian’s sends out a special birthday voucher for a 2-for-1 meal offer, which usually gets ignored, but this year, given the biting winter weather and tight purse strings, we succumbed to the temptation of a good hearty Italian dinner! Wednesday night proved to be an ideal time for eating out. Having been here previously on a busy Saturday night where the place was packed to the maximum and the service quality down to a minimum, mid week drew a large enough crowd to give the restaurant a nice warm ambience and we were treated to a lovely meal and some of the best service I have had anywhere for a long while!

Although we had two different waitresses alternating at our table, the service was smooth and coordinated and we weren’t at any point asked the same question or repeated the same thing by the previous waitress. Courses came out fast and politely and service was easy to hail.

At the start of the evening I asked for table water and Starhusband ordered a glass of red wine. After only a brief wait, the second waitress brought out a bottle of water, two tumblers and the wine and as she put them on the table she smiled politely to me. I thought that was lovely! A (somewhat overly) merry man walked through the front door carrying a six pack of beer by one of the bottle necks and rather predictably, the entire carton smashed onto the floor leaving him holding one beer (which he promptly reacted to by taking off and greeting his table of friends with open arms and the offering of one beer). Quick as a flash the waitresses cleaned up the mess, put up a cleaning sign and one of them helped an old lady with wiping down her coat which got splattered by beer foam.

Sebastian’s tempting pasta, pizza and meats menu proved hard to make a choice, but I finally settled on the mariana pasta and Starrhusband chose the osso bucco and we both decided to share the Aranchini Italian parmesan covered rice balls for entrée. I quickly realised I could have easily eaten the rice balls for dinner as they were delicious! There were two balls each sitting upon a spicy tomato, chilli and garlic sauce that was so good that even a non-sauce fancier like me found myself dipping the side salad into the tomato sauce as not to waste it! My main course proved to be fairly good. I was impressed by the amount of seafood in it that was not just a supermarket ‘marinara mix’, there were scallops with roe, large prawns, baby octopus and mussels in shell. The tomato sauce itself proved to be a bit disappointing as it was not as good as the rice ball sauce and it was a bit salty and sour tasting for my liking. The osso bucco (served on a bed of mash) which I had a mouthful of was pretty yummy with a good bodied slow cooked flavour. I was up for dessert, but the only sweets selection were the café standard cakes sitting in the glass cabinet which I decided to pass on.

Sebastian’s is a rustic, tastefully and richly decorated cafe restaurant that is both roomy and has warmth of character. I am impressed by the staff ethic and found myself leaving a tip. The night totalled up (with the birthday voucher) neatly with change from a $50 note. Starrhusband, who has been here multiple times, didn’t have any complaints at all. According to him the only thing that he didn’t like about the restaurant was the couple sitting snugly next to us having a 'romantic' dinner which consisted of several sour looks at each other and one short sentence (although the woman was having a delicious thick piece of fish which Starrhusband did like the look of).

Dined in to use my birthday voucher for a free meal.

My meal was absolutely delicious! I had the Penne Al Vodka - I thoroughly recommend. Perfect rose sauce with sundried tomatoes & bacon slitherings.

Aranchini rice balls for entree were great as well as the chicken parmigiana my partner had.

I am fussy with cookies n cream cheesecake but theirs was perfect. I LOVE the food there.

Service was great although it was very quiet being an early Monday evening. As the place picked up the service deteriorated a little bit but we still had a great time.

A nice restaurant located in the heart of Victoria Park.

Very impressive menu catering for all tastes, based around an Italian selection.

We went to catch up with some friends so we booked ahead, service was prompt when we arrived and we where seated within 2 - 3 minuets.

Did find that we needed to ask for a bottle of water and some glasses but I'm finding myself having to ask for a bottle of water at almost ever restaurant I go to in Perth these days.

Our meals where Fantastic I had the Vodka Pasta and it was delicious!

I have how ever given the restaurant a lower than expected rating for service because of a few small things. 1. The water bottle (It’s not that hard to provide people with a bottle of water and a menu at the same time) 2. When we had our entrée come out my wife had some oil spilt on her and the floor next to us (Minor issue really could have happen to anyone) 3. When I asked for a second bottle of water I felt a tad upset because the waiter slammed it down on our table so hard that it almost shattered the glass! She then turned and walked off.

Small bit of disappointment with the service but I would not let these small possibly once of things affect your decision to go to Sebastian's as the food and environment make up for it!

I’ll be going back again.

The two of us have been twice. Both times on a week night. The first time the restaurant was really busy. The garlic bread came after a long wait and the main course arrived before we had finished our starters. The main course (Pasta) was excellent and I couldn't wait to go there again for more!

The Second time we went the restaurant was quite quiet. After my fantastic pasta the first time I knew what I wanted before I even got there! However sadly let down. The pasta was horrible and I didn't even finish it. My Boyfriend ordered Coffee and I ordered a pudding to console myself. My pudding was great but the coffee never arrived (and it was on the bill!)

GOOD POINTS: Offer a take away service. Next to massive car park. If you like the food then: Birthday meal scheme. Register a review on a card at the restaurant and you will get a voucher on your birthday (to be used during the week). Some outside seating.

BAD POINTS: Inconsistent service/food quality.

What perfect conditions for an afternoon at the zoo with takeaway from Sebastian’s last Sunday. With the City to Surf in the morning and the Derby in the afternoon and to top it off, a beautiful sunny winter’s day, what more could we ask for a pleasant crowd-free time. Best of all, could get takeaways with ease from Sebastian which we have been yearning to try.

Ordered beforehand over the phone and cannot fathom why it would takes so long as we were told to pick it up ½ hour later, to be precise 12.05pm. I gather at the peak lunch hour, diners must wait at least an hour. Anyhow, parking was a breeze and food ready but minus the environment bag (perhaps coz we ordered only two dishes) which the previous reviewers raved about.

The pasta was piping hot and simply scrumptious. The crayfish fettuccini ($15) with snow peas in a creamy white wine and rose sauce had generous chunks of crayfish visible. It was really good! Unfortunately, although the salmon fettuccini ($12.95) was equally delicious, we were disappointed that we were misled as according to the menu, it is meant to be smoked salmon. Instead it was salmon flakes (like those from a can). Cooked in a creamy tomatoey sauce with capers and sundried tomatoes, we did eventually forgive them as it was yummy.

Perhaps, Sebastian’s need to update their menu as although a bonus to us, snow peas were also not part of the crayfish pasta as per the menu. Or perhaps, to their fancy, they do as they like as long as the main ingredient is present. Anyhow, in my opinion it shows a lack of professionalism and besides that certain diners may be averse to certain foods and would not have ordered if they knew otherwise.

Well, our family just enjoys good food at good prices and we are bound to return when the opportunity arises but the next time round we will confirm the dish details and let management know about our previous disappointment.

I live nearby and quite often get takeaway from here. It is pretty cheap for Italian food! With all takeaway you receive an enviro bag which can be used again at the beach for example. I have so many stacked away in my drawers! My favourite meals would be chilli mussels, and chicken parmigania with spaghetti and lobster pasta for no more then $15 each.

Situated a block away from the Park Centre in East Vic Park, it is quite central and you can watch Albany Hwy's comings and goings. Street parking was somewhat limited but as I mentioned, the Park Centre is very close - the underground parking lot is within walking distance to the cafe. The cafe itself is all wood and glass, most of which I think opens up in the warmer months. It was simply decorated and the tables were mostly laid for restaurant dining. Quite comfortable really. Except they placed us by the door that is only supposedly used as a disabled entrance. Didn't realise this when we took the table they offered. Couldn't work out why I was so cold until I saw the great gap along the edge of the door next to my guest and the smaller gap by the window next to me. My guest was fine as she was sheltered by the door... that is until they kept on opening the stupid thing. First time was to let a wheelchair in - no problem obviously with that, but it would have been nice to have been advised instead of just having our handbag straps pushed under the door railing with no apology. The three other times accommodated patrons and staff - despite a sign to use other door.

Barely looked at menus when asked about drinks. Said we would wait and see what we wanted to order. Went away to be replaced 90 seconds later by another waitress asking the same question! We then sat for a while waiting for anyone to come back. It was about 10 mins before our drinks arrived. (I seemed to confuse the girl when I asked for tap water "What you mean warm water? Well it's not really warm but...")

So many things on the menu that looked tasty and appealing. Not sure why, but we both ignored the $12 special lunch menu (pastas, pizza, salads, meat dishes and burgers) in preference for the main menu. (They also do $10 takeaways.) Probably because there was so much to choose from. Most of it was standard stuff for an Italian cafe restaurant.

We started with the tasting plate for two which was really an antipasto plate, not a tasting plate. The best item was the marinated octopus - bit chewy but very flavoursome. Otherwise it was pretty standard stuff. The Italian sausage however may have been found in Tutenkhamen's tomb it was so hard! This was in complete contrast to the eggplant that was incredibly sloppy! Not a tasting (or antipasto) plate that I would have again, nor one that I would recommend. (Recently I have sampled Gratzi's and Catalano's and both of which were far superior.)

We were asked if we would like our mains to be prepared next - which was the best bit of service we had there! The big bowls of pasta (king prawns/snow peas in cream with penne; crayfish fettuccine in rose sauce) were both tasty and filling and I would be glad to have either again. I wouldn't order a entree though if I was to have the pasta as I felt that I had partially filled myself up on food that wasn't that great, when if I had waited, I could have enjoyed my meal so much more.

Waited for several minutes waiting to see if anybody would come to clear the plates and offer us coffee. Unfortunately, no-one did and we got up and paid our $68 (!). I would have liked to have taken my left over meal home with me but I had substantially gone off the idea by the time we paid our bill (with the surly staff member behind the till). Might investigate their takeaway meals one day if I am down that way at the right time - packaging looked good, food walking out the door seemed to be in a sturdy printed (with Sebastian's name and number on it)shopping bag. May even go back there but I doubt it. The service just wasn't good enough.
