Sittella Winery & Cafe

Sittella Winery & Cafe

Founded in 1998, Sittella is one of Western Australia’s newest, privately owned wineries. Owners Simon and Maaike Berns have the support of an enthusiastic team of professionals to create and produce high quality traditional wine styles, from both their own and contract vineyards throughout the Swan Valley and Margaret River Region. The winery is named after a small Australian bird, which abounds in the nearby tree-lined Swan River.

Nestled among the vines on a gently winding road near the upper reaches of the Swan River lies the Sittella winery & restaurant, a jewel of the historic Swan Valley.

In this tranquil setting with valley and vineyard views from the verandah, visitors are invited to enjoy fine food and award winning wines overlooking the vineyard. The restaurant is also available for

after hours wedding, private and corporate functions.

Take the time-out for a relaxing visit to Sittella Winery in the heart of the picturesque Swan Valley, a leisurely 30 minute drive from Perth City. You'll be glad that you made the journey!

Open Tuesday to Sunday and Public Holidays - 11am to 4pm

for cellar tastings/sales and restaurant service.

  • We ordered tasting plates for the table, they were quite bland. Highlight was the macadamia dip with the turkish bread, lowlight was the anaemic looking chorizo.

I had the duck breast for mains, for 30 something dollars I was expecting a bit more substance to the meal, there was no carb element to soak up the juices (which were way too sweet in any case). The fish of the day was very generous size and very tasty, the rack of lamb very pedestrian, the kangaroo tough as old boots. All in all a little disappointing, I do not mind paying premium price if the food is exciting and tasty, this was neither.

Desserts were better, well presented and tasty and the coffee was very good.

  • Great view, lovely place to hide away on a winters day. One small spoiler was the slight smell of sewerage wafting in..not sure if it was fertiliser on the vines or a bad septic tank, was not overpowering but was a talking point on the table.

  • Even though we checked the menu online we still hadn't made up our minds until we heard the specials for the day. For entree we chose the winemakers mixed selection and the scallops and pork belly. For mains, I chose the Golden Snapper with crab risotto and the other half selected the lamb. The food was excellent, enough variety to satisfy everyone and servings were generous.

  • Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to write reviews for this restaurant as this definitely swayed me in the decision where to go for a lovely Sat lunch and like many others Sitella is now a favourite for us.

  • I ordered the fish of the day and my husband the steak. My fish was beautiful and a nice size serve. My husband ordered his steak medium and it came out a little underdone but he said it was still ok. My husband also ordered dessert which was a brulee. Chef obviously goes to a lot of effort with the desserts which are beautifully presented and pretty tasty too.

  • Another fantastic lunch at Sitellas last Friday. However I did have to beg my way in as we didn't book and it was very busy. However after spending some time trying their wines we were taken to our table and even though we were advised delays could occur our meal arrived shortly after we were seated sipping their oaked chardonnay. The fish of the day was small but perfectly cooked and their duck was perfect (as I am fanatical about duck and this was one of the best I have had). A shared salad and free bread completed the deal. Our son had the kids fish and chips which unfortunately was a bit overcooked but the ice cream included kept him happy. A top spot and one of the best if not THE best restaurant in the Valley. Please try it out but do remember to book first and ask for a table on the verandah if it is a nice day.

  • Always a wonderful dining experience at Sittella Winery.

This visit was a surprise one for myself and my work colleagues. Our boss has kindly organised a luncheon there and we arrived in a mini bus to our mystery destination. I was the only person who had previously dined at Sittella's. I was advised later the venue had been suggested by the bus company (that the mini bus and our driver were hired from). So even the boss and marketing manager who helped to organise the luncheon had never been to Sittella's before.

Our group of 20 enjoyed pre-lunch wine tasting at the cellar door next to the winery restaurant. The winery's ever popular 'Silk' white wine was a definite favourite with our group. We also tried a white blend and a Cab Sav red

We took up 2 large tables in the outside dining area, we were cozy warm and dry (on an otherwise miserable winters day)and enjoyed the beautiful view overlooking the vineyards on the winery. There were quite a number of other diners already seated and the atmosphere was abuzz with lots of happy patrons enjoying their meals and company.

We had a set menu, which consisted of an entree platter, which had something for everyone. It included very generous servings of preserved figs, smoked salmon with wasabi mayonnaise, cheese, cold meats, pickled artichoke and was served with warm turkish breads slices and a delicious dip. We enjoyed wines from the tastings we had tried, both the 'Silk' and the 'Cab Sav' were ordered for us to enjoy during our meal.
For mains we had a choice: Pot roasted chicken, grilled fish of the day or porterhouse steak. I choose the latter and it was served hot and rare - just as I had ordered it. It came with steamed vegetables. It was devine.
For dessert we had a choice of Fruit crumble (apple and rhubarb) with icecream or cheese cake with berry sauce. Again I chose the latter which was a delicious and very smooth and creamy. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire meal (as I had expected to from being so impressed from past experience dining at the restaurant).

I didn't hear one negative from any of the other 19 people who I dined with. Everybody commented on what a pleasant day it had been and how much they all enjoyed themselves at Sittella's. Our afternoon had been nice and slow paced. A very relaxing day all round!
The meals very, very enjoyable, nothing sent back and almost every morsel eaten (though a couple struggled to finish the large portioned main meals and reluctantly gave in to allow room for their desserts!!!) Many had commented they would return there now knowing it existed as many were completely unaware of Sittella's Winery & Restaurant, prior to our arrival there last Friday afternoon.

It truly is a wonderful place to dine - I am never disappointed with the food, atmosphere and the attentive and friendly staff employed there.

5 stars again to Sittella Winery!

I have had the experience of dining at Sittella's...

    V
  • I have had the experience of dining at Sittella's Winery Cafe on one other occasion and thoroughly enjoyed it. The beautiful Swan Valley setting and the vista of rows and rows of gorgeous grapevines as well as the delicious menu was a big reason for my return to this oasis....

We introduced my husbands parents to Sittella's on our return visit..the occasion was their wedding anniversary. It was a surprise - they had no idea where we'd booked for lunch.. We picked them up and drove through the Swan valley and until we turned into Barrett Street (from the Great Northern Hwy) they were oblivious to our destination.

We opted to sit indoors on this occasion (as the sweltering 39 degree temperature outside did nothing for us). We were seated in air-conditioned comfort and were attended to immediately. The staff were friendly and very accomodating. We ordered one of their gorgeous whites to drink and started our eating experience with a shared 'Chefs plate'. which was a delightful array of gourmet delights and suited us all (including my husband's gluten intolerance).

The menu is labelled with gluten free and vegetarian suited dishes - which is always a wonderful help when dining with somebody who has a specific food intolerance such as gluten.

For mains the Porterhouse Steak was to die for..served exactly as I had ordered it 'Rare' and very tender. It almost melted in my mouth..Mmmmm!

My husband ordered the Special of the Day - a Game plate which featured Kangaroo, Emu and Wild Boar delicacies. My in-laws both ordered a Fish Dish - which I think was snapper and was served with Tiger Prawns. All meals were very generous portions...and in finishing them we realised they had left no room for dessert.

This was quite disappointing as they had a Chocolate plate which sounded divine and from another review I have just read on this website I am advised the Chocolate plate is very decadent and most enjoyable.

Mental note for my next visit to Sittella's - order small for main meal and order big for dessert!!!

I thoroughly recommend you look up Sittella's when planning your next visit to the Swan Valley. You will not be disappointed.

    V
  • We decided on a nice leisurely lunch in the Swan Valley today - spur of the moment decision - not a great idea because everywhere was packed.

They managed to squeeze us in here and although it was busy, there was a lot of space between tables and so it was quite comfortable.

For starters we enjoyed the tasting plate ($23.50). It was delicious - smoked salmon, pickled vegetables, pesto, bread, squid rings, spring roll etc.

For mains I had the rack of lamb with a mint and rosemary jus ($30). This was just beautiful. A decent serving size and the meat was cooked perfectly. My husband had the pork with caramelised apples and he also said it was lovely.

For dessert I had the strawberries with Cointreau ice-cream and cream in a brandy snap basket. The waitress recommended it and it was superb. My husband had the chocolate tasting plate which had the most amazing chocolate brulee. It was more bitter than sweet and tasted absolutely divine.

The service was fantastic. We could see that they were very busy and flustered, but nothing was too much trouble.

We bought a few bottles of wine from the cellar door as well, and I think overall, I was most impressed with the value for money. The most expensive main was $35 - most of them were under $30 (which I think is pretty good for a winery) and the wine was well priced also.

  • I have been to Sitella 4 times, knowing the Swan Valley inside out; this is a "must” restaurant.

It has a good combination of everything, magic place; great food and fantastic service and is very popular so bookings are essential.

One of those very special places for very special moments.
