Overall:
Last night I took a friend out to dinner at Social. Being a nice evening we decided to dine outdoors 'alfresco'. Even though I had made a booking for this they had set us a table indoors. They were however very happy to move us back to the outdoors eating area.
We started with a tasting plate for 2, which was ordinary, however I believe that they should provide more crackers to go with the large bowl of feta, chorizo and the pate.
For mains I had Duck leg Confit which was beautifully cooked and the meat was succulent, however, I found the glaze/sauce rather salty and believe that this would be suited to a slightly sweeter sauce. My dining partner ate the Osso Bucco which came recommended from the waiter. He had a very generous serving of this, however, he only ate a third advising me it was rather dry for Osso Bucco, and perhaps cooked too long.
We shared a bottle of Penfolds which made for a very good choice, but rather overpriced at $88 a bottle. A little disappointing as the Social website states they have an extensive and affordable wine list?? I would suggest more local 'known' wines.
The service was very good and the waiters extremely friendly and not 'in your face'.
Overall: I was happy with the service however believe that the food was far over-rated and maybe we should have stuck to simpler dishes. Maybe this restaurant is best suited to cocktails and canapés, or lazy lunches, and a little music in the alfresco area would be nice in the background to take peoples minds off the cars that shoot by.
