One of my favourite past-times is to eat out. When I found out that Quinten Lynch and his girlfriend Daneka had been approached by eatingwa.com.au to review restaurants, I knew that I had to put my name out there to be included in this great concept.
My first visit was to be Sorrento Restaurant – a popular Italian eatery in Northbridge. Having not dined out in Northbridge for some time we were interested to see how much it has changed over a number of years. We were pleasantly surprise to see there was a festive atmosphere, not only on the streets, but also within Sorrento itself.
Once seated I ordered a nice bottle of red wine from the Reserve wine list. This was decanted upon our request and complimented our meals. (I am a huge red wine fan and was impressed with the extensive list on offer).
I was a little unsure of what to order as I’m a big fan of Italian food and there was so much to choose from.

To start with we ordered some garlic bread which was fresh and of ample size. For entrée I settled on a dozen Oysters Kilpatrick and my girlfriend Bree ordered the Calamari which came grilled, served with a bed of rocket and red onion. My oysters were delicious and were down the hatch in less than two minutes! Bree enjoyed her calamari - it was quite a large serve and had a hint of chilli.
For mains I decided on the Petti di pollo ai Gamberi (Grilled chicken breast topped with prawns and creamy garlic sauce). This was a good size meal and I thought was very tasty. It was served on a bed of roasted rosemary potatoes and sautéed spinach. The chicken was juicy and the prawns a good size. The creamy garlic sauce wasn’t too rich – just right to allow me to finish my meal completely.

Bree ordered the Scaloppine ai Funghi which was pan fried with mushrooms and a white wine cream sauce. This was also a decent size and proved too much for Bree.
Once we finished our mains we decided that we simply could not fit in desserts. We did check out the menu though and noticed that there was a great choice on offer. When we go back next we’ll definitely try the Sticky Date Pudding!
The service was efficient besides the mishap of being served the liver instead of my Oysters for entrée. Our waiter apologised and within 5 or so minutes we had our correct order in front of us.
Prices are not cheap, but definitely not expensive. I would say mid range, and good value for the size of the meals we sampled.
Overall we had a lovely evening and decided that the Northbridge atmosphere is something we have missed.
Until next time – happy dining!
