Welcome to Soto Espresso

Contrary to its name, this busy little Beaufort Street cafe offers far more than just a short, sharp caffeine fix to get you through the day. Perfectly positioned for people watching, and tastefully designed to create an ultra-relaxed vibe, Soto Espresso is the kind of cafe that lures you in to linger longer. Perhaps the best reason to stick around is the surprisingly extensive menu board, which flaunts a tasty array of 'doorstopper' sandwiches, crisp salads, wholesome soups, robust pies and delectable tarts. Start the day with poached eggs on a chunky slice of New Norcia sourdough, pop back for an oven-roasted vegetable, rare roast beef and caramelised onion sandwich at lunch time, and finish with a coffee and cake, or, if you're feeling particularly conscientious, a low calorie, mini Bakewell tart.

Opening Times Open for breakfast and lunch, 7 days a week.

Food:

The food menu was extensive, but missing a few simple basics. The bread required a chainsaw to cut through and the bacon was a little caramelized. Could have done a lot better for a Friday morning when there was not much rush to speak of.

Service:

The service was ok and again could have been a lot better for that time of the morning.

Ambience:

The ambience was really good and the place certainly has its own character - the traffic noise was starting to bother me might be an idea to keep the door / window closed on a wet day.

Overall:
There is scope for improvement and we might visit again in a few weeks time to see if there is any difference in the service or the quality of the food.

It was Sunday morning and Soto was very busy even though we arrived earlyish at 9am. Our lattes came out quickly but we found them to be very strong and bitter (not my preference for coffee), however we asked for a jug of hot milk which we were given and after adding that they were much better.

I ordered the French Toast with warm banana and berry compote. It was nice and well made, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Service was also good and the food came out quickly. I found their menu to be a bit limited in terms of "sweet" options, (no pancake dishes!) but the French toast was delicious.
Not the best breakfast I've ever had but this is certainly somewhere I'd return!

Soto is open until very late for coffee etc on Friday & Saturday nights, and this is when I have frequented it - hence providing a different perspective to breakfast time!

It is quite darkish inside with a 'trendy' young crowd. A few arty types, some teens, young adults...

This place seems to train their staff well as my hot chocolates are always good. Self serve water that tastes a bit metallic. I've never had a problem with service - you order at the counter and they bring your drinks / cakes out to you.

The cakes etc look quite nice and many come warmed with ice cream on the side, my friends always seem to enjoy them.

A lot of places claim to have THE BEST this, THE BEST that...this place actually does have the best breakfast in town.

Excellently presented, excellent quality, excellent menu, and also very good prices.
If I didn't live 30 minutes away I'd be they're best friend.

Everything on that menu tastes wonderful, I've never encountered PLAIN TOAST to be so good, but they did it.

I've tried a decent portion of the menu at this place, including their counter baguettes and sandwiches and their deserts. It's really wonderful to be able to eat at a place that serves food so good you don't just gulp it all down, you can actually appreciate each mouthful.

Fantastic Cafe! I had been meaning to go since it was mentioned to me how fab their breakfasts are and it certainly didn't disappoint! We both ordered the mushrooms on toast topped with parmesan (DELICIOUS) and fresh juice with a coffee. Food was great, service quick and reasonably friendly and the decor is simple and trendy. Lovely to see tables and chairs outside where I will be sitting next time if it’s a little bit warmer.
