Welcome to Subiaco Hotel

Subiaco Hotel

The Subiaco Hotel has become something of an icon in the suburb of Subiaco. It is smack bang in the heart of the city’s cosmopolitan restaurant, bar and shopping precinct.

Part of its appeal is a slick modern restaurant and bars wrapped in the old world charm of a historic building. If it is not to kick start the day with a delicious breakfast and a short macchiato, it is to finish up the night with a cocktail lounging on one of their comfortable sofas. Party-goers may prefer the front bar with live bands, or a sophisticated cocktail lounge.

Over the past 12 years the Subiaco Hotel has consistently rated both state and national, as winner of the prestigious “Best Restaurant in a hotel” awards. The food is innovative, with a daily specials list and menus changing every 6 weeks.

Opening Times 7 days a week 7am- late

Food:

I ordered the tiger prawns and the veal, whilst my friend ordered the martabak and pork belly.

By the time our starters arrived we were both starving and capable of eating just about anything, which was fortunate because my dish was not particularly appetizing. My prawns were slightly underdone and the salad was dry as if it had been sitting out for a while. The martabak however got rave reviews, a great infusion of spices and tasty beef. Both mains were well presented but my veal was a bit tasteless and my friend's pork quit chewy. Don't get me wrong, the meals weren't horrible, but I have eaten out quite a bit in Subiaco in establishments that are similarly priced and for me the 'Subi' isn't quite up to the same standard.

Service:

It seemed to be a particularly busy night for a Tuesday with all tables full. After arriving at the hotel at 7:30pm, we had attempted to get a table without a booking at around 8pm. We finally sat down just after 8:30pm but didn't end up ordering our food and wine until after 9pm.

Ambience:

The restaurant area is very spacious and airy, opening to the street on one side. The room is quite noisy, which is fine you are looking for vibrant atmosphere, but not so good if you want to talk to anyone at your table without raising your voice.

Overall:
I travel to Perth frequently on business and it seems that every time I ask someone where we should head out to for the evening the reply inevitably comes back 'The Subiaco Hotel'. Given the number of established bars and restaurants in Perth this never ceases to amaze me.
Perhaps it is a way that they attempt to herd all of the people from out of town into the one spot so that they can have the rest of the city to themselves? I'll go back there for a beer, but not to eat.

This is the first time I have had breakfast at the Subi.

We were a group of 5 work mates who arranged to meet there for breaky at 10am- you can’t order until 1030 though. The menu is ok, but I am reluctant to say, not overly inspiring. I had the porridge with rhubarb and apple - it was enjoyable and quite a big serving. One of the others had a fruit salad and the rest had the scrambled eggs with fetta and spinach with toasted Turkish bread wedges. Everyone enjoyed the meal but I wish I had ordered differently. They offer French toast brioche with berries, a couple of big breakies and New Norcia toast- plain or fruit. You don’t appear to be able to order side dishes of bacon, eggs, sausages, etc. Maybe if you ask you can but I didn't.

Good points were the coffee (strong), and the overall ambience. We sat inside and it was lovely with the windows and doors open letting the breeze through on a sunny day.

I think I will stick to lunch and dinner though as they excel in those times.

Have been to the Subi many times and have never really had a bad experience which is a mighty achievement for any restaurant in a town that is chronically short of hospitality workers.

The food is very good although I would say that breakfast does not live up to the standard of lunch/dinner which is a shame. Servings are generous.

Service has always been good but whoever has the booking sheet invariably takes on the persona of a receptionist at a busy medical practice. However, once you get past whoever is playing gate keeping twat for the evening you should have a very enjoyable experience.

Would not hesitate to recommend Subi for an evening out especially if you intend on belting back a few drinks.

Had a business breakfast there last Friday morning. We got there just before 7am and they were happy to let us sit inside out of the cold wind while we waited for the table service to start. We even got water while we waited, which was a pleasant surprise.

We both ordered the Eggs Benedict (my favourite!), and they were delicious. The eggs were really orange and perfectly cooked, and the sauce was a beautiful accompaniment though I should have had it on the side like my companion did as there was a lot of it and it was VERY rich.

This is about the third time in the past couple of years that I've had a business brekky at the Subi and each time the experience and the food has been terrific. Highly recommended.

My sister, brother’s girlfriend and I decided to go to the subi for breakfast last Saturday. Even though my sister booked a table for us, our reservation unfortunately didn't exist.

My sister asked for French toast, which wasn't on the menu so the kitchen knocked the request back and she ordered the eggs Florentine. My brother’s girlfriend ordered the farmhouse breakfast, which was a very generous in size and I ordered the eggs Benedict. The food was excellent and the coffee was even better.

We were upset at the service though as my sisters coffee was spilt onto the saucer when served to her and we firstly had asked to have our coffee served with our meal, which didn't happen. We constantly hounded by the waitresses after we had finished our meal if we wanted anything else as the footy crowd were soon to arrive.

I so like the look and atmosphere of the place and the food is great. It’s a shame that the service really brings the place down which is so disappointing for a high class place.

Dropped in on Friday night for a quite meal and a catch up with some friends. It was very busy, and consequently very noisy, which made conversation hard unless you were sitting right next to them; however it is only to be expected on a Friday evening!
We had booked and received a table which had more than enough room for all of us and also had a great view over everyone and the back room band - playing covers of well known favourites, which added to the fun ambience of the place.

The food was lovely. I had the roasted spatchcock on a turnip puree which had a rich glaze and flavour to it which was very enjoyable, however paired with the turnip puree which was also very rich, made it all a bit too much, and I was unable to finish the meal.

Service was fantastic! Our waitress was not only knowledgeable about the food, but also very accommodating when we asked for minor changes to the menu to be made. The food came out in a timely manner, and everyone received their dishes at the same time.

I think the price was reasonable for the quality of food received and I would be happy to return there again.

We decided to welcome in the New Year by sharing lunch (and a tipple or two!) with a couple of friends at The Subi Hotel and we ended up having a really great time seated in the alfresco area out the front!

To begin with, however, service was very slow. Although, considering this was one of the only venues open for service on New Years Day that was understandable. It was quite busy. Once the staff attended to our table, they were very friendly and informative.

Eventually, our waitress took our drinks order. We commenced with a couple of foreign beers and some taltarni pink sparkling, a delightfully light and refreshing drop! This place has an excellent wine list.

Our starters arrived - a Subi Plate and turkish bread to share. The turkish bread was soft and fresh and lightly toasted, absolutely addictive! The Subi Plate was filled with a variety of scrumptious morsels such as tempura style calamari with lime aioli sauce, crumbed salmon with dark sweet soy dipping sauce, mini boconcini, basil and prosciutto pizza, pork cake, sushi roll, potato gems, mini marinated olives and some other interesting tastings.

It took a while for the wait staff to recognise that we needed drink refills. We were served the capel vale dry red wine and the howard park riesling just before our mains arrived, but we had to practically beg someone to bring us our drinks.

Can I just add at this point that I felt that the table we were seated at was too small in size, it was hardly big enough to fit our plates and drinks on! It can be a little cumbersome having to shuffle objects around on the table all the time in an effort to make sure everything fits comfortably.

Mains arrived. I had the chinese-style crisp ocean trout, red chilli caramel dressing, tomato prawn salad. The fish was cooked to perfection - tender and moist on the inside and coated in a light asian batter. My other half had one of the specials, the scotch fillet with potatoes and fried onion rings. He said it was a little grissly, but still enjoyed his meal. Other members of our party had the prawn and pea risotto and a fancy looking parmagiana. We were all left completely satisfied. The food was definitely not pub-grub, more like upmarket cafe food.

For desserts we shared the vanilla brulee with berries and the raspberry éclair with chocolate sauce. The brulee came with a crusty toffee top (blow torched) which cracked open to reveal a soft creamy brulee resting on a bed of tiny black vanilla bean spots. Yum! The éclair was also irresistible, filled with a subtle creamy custard and sweet raspberries with a shot glass of sinfully rich chocolate sauce to pour over the top. I couldn't stop eating, but had to as I was soooo full by then I was starting to feel physically ill!!!

It costed $250 for the four of us.

After we paid the bill, we made our way to the cocktail bar. I had a Serengeti sunset which was a combination of mango and raspberry flavours in a slushy style drink. Another friend has a watermelon and vodka cocktail and someone else had a campari on ice. My other half had a cappuccino. Cocktails are $15 here, but well worth the money!

A very satisfying experience was had by all! We shall definitely return for another round one day.

Went for dinner on a Tuesday for a work function - only problem was we had to be there at 5.30 as they said they had another large booking later (we were there till 8pm and we never saw them!) and then they said the specials wouldn't be available until 6pm - so we just waited till after then to order which defeated the purpose of us being there early!

But the service was fantastic and they suggested the turkish bread and dips and subi plate to start. Both were fantastic and disappeared pretty quickly. The calamari was tender, and there was seared salmon with hoisin which was amazing, and the dips were lovely too.

I had the steak which was served with bernaise and chips - I asked for just steamed green veg and they had no problem with altering the menu for me. We've never had a problem before with that either - though I've worked in hospitality so pretty much know what they can and can't change easily, so I don't let them get away with it, if they say they can't change it without a good explanation.

Everyone else enjoyed their meals too - especially the pork belly main and the sticky toffee dessert - both totally rich and fabulous.

I'd definitely go there again - even if I was paying - I've been a few times and always had good service and great food at breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I went with my family for lunch to the Subi and although the food was decent, we felt our waiter lacked initiative. My mother ordered the chicken caesar salad which comes with candied bacon, but she asked the waiter if she could have crispy bacon instead. This shouldn't have been a problem as one of the other salads on the menu had crispy bacon with it. But the waiter told her that no, it wasn't possible because they didn't do bacon any other way. At a cheaper restaurant I wouldn't be bothered so much by this, but I know that the Subi is deemed more upper class than that and at $40 for a bottle of wine I'm sure they could stretch themselves to change the bacon. My husband ordered the scampi, which unfortunately was only half the scampi. I found it slightly overpriced for what they were offering, but otherwise the food was tasty.

Consistently good venue with great menu (it takes ages to get through it all) and all your favourite drinks available.

Can get a bit noisy, especially on the weekends, but if you are after bustle and perhaps some classy live music, it is a great venue.

Service can be a bit hit & miss, but management have recognised this and will make amends. One on occasion we had one meal come out a few minutes after the others had come out, and the Manager came over to apologise and offer us a free bottle of wine. That impressed me.

Impressive food for what looks like a pub from the outside. its one of the hippest places to be seen in subi. Check out the daily specials - usually something exotic and other safer bets. Typically good fare but on the pricey side for some. Lots of wait staff, some more attentive than others. Awesome scenery - i think its a major place for girl meets guy and vice versa. Book on fridays and weekends...

Being a hotel I was expecting a steak and fries kind of menu, but I was pleastly surprised to find an array of meals to cater for even the most fussiest of folks. Was a little pricey, considering the size of the meals, but the fish was to die for!

I think we went at the wrong time tho (just before chrissy) coz the place was chockers!! Will definetly be attending again
