Overall:
We were introduced to this restaurant through friends of ours who live in the area, as we were seriously battling to find a good Thai restaurant in Perth. We loved it - the food was excellent - the service .... very polite and efficient and we loved the setting.
We have since been back several times - the restaurant has always been full - and the food delicious!!!
Overall:
Five of us came for dinner on a quiet Sunday night. We came around 8.30. The service at first was good, the waitress ushered us to our table, poured water for the table, few minutes later she took our order. We ordered gold bags and fish cakes, the gold bags were really tasty however the fish cakes were slightly burnt/overcooked. The mains came straight away, everything was excellent, both the appearance and the taste. However, a slight disappointment came after we finish our mains, 3 waitpersons passed our table many times but nobody wants to clear our plates, we waited for about 15 minutes (we are the only table there) and finally asked for the dessert menus, then the waiter said the kitchen has closed. Usually I would expect at least someone to asked us when we were eating if we want to order any dessert because the kitchen is about to closed. In summary, excellent food and ambiance but not so professional service.
Overall:
Ten of us visited the Thai Orchid on Saturday 29 May 2006. Unfortunately we had a nervous wait person who managed to spill glasses of water TWICE on the tables resulting in a change of linen once but for some reason it was not changed the second time. In the end we had to point out that the plates had water floating in them etc.
Apart from this not very auspicious start, the food was tasty and prompt however the steamed whole fish was definitely underdone but edible. And the staff were very pleasant, especially considering we were the last to leave.
PS: Strangely when we requested champagne glasses we were told they only had four which was strange for a Gold Plate restaurant.
Overall:
When I lived in Mt Lawley 6 years ago Thai Orchid was mostly a takeaway place and a pretty mediocre one at that. Oh how things have changed! I believe this restaurant has been a Gold Plate winner for several years in a row and the food was very good indeed.
There were 5 of us so we sampled a number of dishes. Both the chicken with cashew nuts and the beef with basil were delicious, and there was a chef's special of skewered grilled prawns that was also very nice. We also had a good Pad Thai and a penang curry I believe, and a set of the mixed appetisers. All were good. We won't hesitate to go back again.
