Took the extended Family here today for a long lunch after reading the reviews.

All up it was a great experience and lived up to expectations - the staff were great and helpful.

The food was excellent with everyone enjoying their meal especially the noted pate, tasting plate and kids meals. Wine prices were good but you should do a wine tasting before you eat so that you can select the exact wine you want. Some of the wine is quite good and some is fairly average.

Some delays in getting everything out with a big table of 9 but it was a casual day and they were fairly full. The FLIES were very active which was quite a downer but everyone had a good time and the kids enjoyed the space to run around.

Had a family lunch here friday. The weather was lovely, the setting is beautiful, the staff efficient and friendly and the food delicious.

Tasting plates were shared followed by a couple of bottles of shiraz and serves of the pork (done three ways), kangaroo fillets, a lamb dish and two serves of the calamari (best in town for me at the moment!).

All meals were presented beautifully and enjoyed immensely - YUM! :-)

Overall:
When 4 of us were looking to go somewhere for a Sunday lunch, we decided to try out Waters Edge in South Guildford and see what had changed since the new owners had moved in. The sun was out and with no rain in sight; we asked if we could be seated outside. We were surprised that more people weren’t taking advantage of the glorious views. Whilst waiting for friends to arrive, my girlfriend and I ordered the tasting plate which is listed on the menu as serving 2 people, along with an extra serve of bread. This arrived not long after our friends did and was sufficient enough for the 4 of us. The semi-dried olives, feta, Italian sausage and marinated mushrooms were not the best that I have had, but they were all devoured with no complaints. The two dips of the day were white bean and rosemary and sun dried capsicum and were a treat with any of the three different types of bread.

Whilst deciding on our mains, we ordered another bottle of the Sauv Blanc Semillon, seeing as the first one had gone down a treat. Service was a bit hit and miss. We were either trying desperately to get someone’s attention to come outside and serve us or we were fending off an over enthusiastic staff member who kept asking if we were ready to order our mains, even though we had said we would like to wait until we had finished our entrée.

Everything sounded delicious and it seemed for three of us red meat was the way to go. One order of lamb rump, one steak on pumpkin damper and an osso bucco all arrived looking hearty and filling, whilst the crocodile and duck spring rolls satisfied our friend’s desire for something different. The meals really were beautifully presented (not sure about the Jenga chips stacks though) and full of flavour. Everything really was delicious and we all loved the fat salty chips with a gorgeous aioli and chilli jam. By the time the rain did come, we were all very relaxed, very full and only too happy to move inside in front of the fire to finish our wine. With our entertainment book, the bill came to $160 for the four of us. Not cheap, but we would all go again for the views (on a sunny day), the delicious tasty food and the very pleasant wine.

Had lunch here on a beautiful sunny day (after some wine tasting). Sat outside under the sails with a lovely view of the spectacular gardens and the river. Between us we shared the tasting plate (divine sausage, 2 dips, fetta, olives etc), the duck and crocodile spring rolls (very tasty) and the pesto squid (perfectly cooked) with a decent amount of side salad. Service was efficient and friendly (it was not too busy that day). Will return soon :-)

Waters Edge Winery has had a well deserving revamp. When it was the Olive Farm, the interior was always cold and dark with so much stone dominating the room. The new owners have spent $80000 remodeling the inside dining and serving area, complete with new bar and windows into the kitchen. The metallic walls and much improved lighting make the room much airier and the new tables and chairs much more comfortable. We called in for a light bite for Saturday lunch without a booking, hoping for an outside table. Unfortunately outside was fully booked but we were easily accommodated within the spacious room inside.

From where we were sitting, the board specials above the bar were a little difficult to make out but I think we got the gist of them anyway. The menu provides most dishes as either main or entrée sized, plus a range of sides, kids meals, desserts and beverages, including all wines by the glass. (For those of you interested, the kids’ meals were all real meals and I think included a drink/dessert. Not a nugget in sight!) We opted to start with the chef’s pate served with onion conserve and toast. At first bite, the pate didn’t seem to be anything special, just a standard pate maison, but as we progressed with the addition of the conserve on the pate, the taste became sensational. Both of us felt we could have had just this for a lunch on its own, and if I am to go back here in the near future, it will be because of this dish.

We followed this with the salt and pepper squid and salad for me, and my dining companion had the steak on pumpkin damper with caramalised onions, roasted tomato, salad and a stack of huge doorstop chips. Both meals were delightful. We washed our food down with a glass of rose and a glass of chenin blanc. Neither of the wines lived up to the food.

The service was friendly although due to the extremely busy outside area, did become slow from time to time. Quite liked the smart uniforms as well – not a t-shirt or apron in sight.

After an Entertainment Book discount, we left feeling very full and only $48 lighter in the pocket. Would I go back? I think so. The problems that Olive Farm were displaying in its last guise seem to have been eradicated with the new ownership. As it is my closest good restaurant, I am very pleased to be able to return this venue to my preferred list.

We've been to this place a few times now and we really love it!

The service is great (maybe a little slow when fully booked), the food is fantastic, my favs are the prawns (which are in a creamy chilli sauce), and the pumpkin damper, which I hope remain on the menu.

The gardens are really nice, and eating outside looking over the river adds to the whole atmosphere (can get a little hot in summer)

We like the place so much my cousin is having her wedding there.

I really want to recommend this place but its transformation from winery to restaurant-only has perhaps removed some of the character. We still go fairly regularly (when we can't get into Jane Brook) but the service is generally disappointing. The setting is great though and the food is well-presented and tasty.
