- I was really looking forward to dinner at Zanders, but unfortunatley all meals that my partner and myself ordered were a real let down. Arancini was stodgy and relatively tasteless, pork belly dish included undercooked scallops and very little other flavor. The lightly battered fish, was very heavily battered, maybe in an attempt to disguise the small size of the fish fillet.

- I went to Zanders with my girlfriend for a sunday afternoon lunch and thoroughly enjoyed it. We had the seafood platter for two and it was probably the best I have had in Perth. It came loaded with chilli mussels, oysters, smoked salmon, chips, salad, squid, calamari, fish, huge prawns, whitebait and more which I can't remember. The whitebait was unreal and I pretty much scoffed it all myself. The fish was hot and nicely cooked. Oysters were fresh and tasty. Calamari was great and hot. The prawns were very well cooked and tasty. I honestly don't have anything bad to say about any of the seafood on the whole platter.

- It had been a while since I had eaten at Zanders, but it didn't€™t take long to remember why I never go there. The prices are ridiculous and the food is terrible. I ordered a roast lamb meal and after waiting for over an hour (with no drinks service) I was very disappointed. The Lamb was dry and tough, served with potatoes and beans of the same description. For $36.00 I was discussed. In Hindsight I should have refused to pay. My Partner had the Chicken Parmigiana which was also a letdown. In fact the only reason I am awarding one star is because the tomato soup entree wasn't too bad.

- The Chorizio sausage was dissappointing as it was tough to chew as well as drowned in oil, however, the salt & pepper squid was perfect. Our mains arrived whilst we were still finishing our starters much to our surprise but that was soon overshadowed as the lamb was fantastic. Unfortunately, our children's fish & chips, came sliding around the plate with only 6 chips (maybe 7 on one plate) it was no wonder they did!? We asked for tomato sauce for the chips and can you believe, we were charged $1 on our bill - next time I'll bring my own!! All was not lost, the fish was beautiful, which was a nice change, as it seems they normally use the crap for kids meals. However, the "we have no ice cream" was another shock/disspointment!!!!!

Our party of 5 started with two Sushi Platters for entrees. Although presented pleasantly, the Sushi Platters were dismal - with very little sushi on the plate (which is priced at around $28). The sushi rolls were also not entirely fresh.
For mains, our group ordered lamb shanks (tasty but lacked vegetables), seafood risotto (tasty but overwhelmingly 'garlicy'), seafood penne (tasty), club sandwich and a burger (both of which seemed to be pretty standard). For dessert, the pear tarte tartin sounded delicious, but to our disappointment was not served before 6pm. The cakes of the day were the usual kind - cheesecake, mudcake - very uninspiring. - Service

We went to Zanders for Breakfast on a Sunday morning. We arrived dead on 11am, and I thought that we would have missed breakfast and were probably going to have to have lunch! But the Breakfast menu goes through to 11.30am so it was perfect. Sunday breakfasts should always run late!
I ordered Zanders Eggs (poached, with hollandaise sauce) with spinach that came on English muffins. My boyfriend ordered Bacon & Eggs on toast (scrambled).
It took about 15 minutes for it all to come out. All the food was absolutely delicious! From the way the eggs were cooked to the extras and the bread. - Service

-
On Tuesday night I took my friend Bec out as she was leaving to go back to New Zealand the following Monday and I'm glad we chose Zanders as the place to eat.
The venue is perfect for that relaxed evening meal or even a quick drink complimented with a small serving selection from their excellent seasonal menu. I have eaten many times there before but only for lunch so I was anxious to see what they had to offer for an evening meal. I wasn't disappointed.
For a starter we decided to have their Gnocchi served with beef ragout, emmental sauce and sweet potato crisp. I've had Gnocchi before but I have to say I was quite impressed. The meat was well prepared and just fell apart in your mouth. The Gnocchi wasn't doughy and the sauce added the perfect complement to both the Gnocchi and beef.
There was about a 15 minute wait between the starter and the main which was fine as it gave us time to talk and enjoy the scenery and the ambience of Scarborough.
For main I decided to go with the Atlantic Salmon. It came served with onion and leek mash, asparagus spears placed across the top and a citrus beurre blanc. Like the Gnocchi the salmon was very well presented and well prepared. The salmon was of a decent size as well - which was a pleasant surprise as I was expecting a small serving that past experience almost guaranteed to be a certainty. The rest of the meal was prepared well in their own right but only enough to complimented the salmon.
Bec decided to go with the Chicken Linguini. It came intertwined with mushrooms, sun dried tomato and spinach finished with a white wine and garlic sauce. The sauce was done perfectly as it had just the right viscosity to hold the meal together without leaving a lot at the bottom of the bowl after you had finished. The serving was well above normal size and I had to eventually help her finish the meal.
For dessert we both went for their French white and dark chocolate moose as it came highly recommended from my friend Sophie. It came presented with sheets of dark chocolate separating the two with a small piece of rich dark chocolate mud cake on top to help compliment the dish. If you’re secretly a sweet tooth at heart - or even a notorious sugar coinsure than this dish is the one for you. Personally I don't mind the odd slice of cake or piece of chocolate but I am more of a savoury person. Saying that the moose was brilliantly done but in the end too sweet for me. Bec on the other hand is totally opposite so she was more than happy to help me finish.
Throughout the night we were constantly attended to from drink refills to asking if everything was ok with the meal. This impressed me the most as even though the restaurant wasn't completely booked out they were still considerately busy.
Overall I was quite impressed with the whole dining experience and I will definitely be back. The meals weren't too bad with pricing but as with everything you definitely get what you pay for - and personally I would rather pay that little bit extra if it helps guarantee a better dining experience.
