  • What am I not getting about this cafe? It consistently has a fair few people in it so you'd expect it to be good and there are quite a few reviewers that loved it. I went expecting something good but wouldn't go back. Had the tacos de napole, which were a squishy bland thing, really badly presented lumped on an ancient plate, not a groovy old plate but a yukky kind of institution style plate with similar cutlery, including a bent ancient fork. I point out I am not some crockery maniac - it was just unusual in a restaurant and made it look a bit nasty. There seemed to be no care taken and the service was chaotic. It was just really odd and a bit off. I may have just struck them on a bad night but not trying again.

  • I would like to see the portion sizes increase a bit. We shared the cheese dip and cornchips for entree and it could easily have been double the size. Those chocolate donut dessert thingoes were fantastic (to share between the whole table as they were incredibly rich and a bit sickening). The food was hot and fresh, was beautifully presented and tasted great.

  • I was impressed and think that I would go back there for a special event. We paid $3.00 PER GLASS just to have wine, which was very steep I thought. Maybe $3 corkage for a whole bottle but not per glass!

  • I've been to TLMP several times and the food has always been fantastic. I am particularly a fan of the weekend brunches. I find it hard to order anything other than the huevos ahogados... It's so delicious. I have never once heard anyone complain about their meal.

    On Saturday night we were trying to think of somewhere we could go to eat (it was about 10pm so options in Perth were limited). We remembered that TLMP has signage saying they are open until midnight, so thought we'd head there.

    I had the pork soft tacos and my partner had the lamb enchiladas. Both were delicious. The virgin margaritas are also fantastic (even better with some tequila). We were very satisfied.

  • I'm really surprised by some of the reviews I've read on here. This is one of my favourite restaurants in Perth. I adore their brunches particularly. And I love that they are open late.

  • Arrived promptly at the reserved time, ushered to table, & served room temperature tap water (unfiltered).
    The entradas (entre) were "Empanadas de cangrejo"(crab meat) & "Tamal de pollo"(steamed mexican bread, stuffed with chicken). At best mediocre & tasteless. The Platos Fuertes (mains) were even worse. "Chimichanga de borrego"(slowed cooked lamb) & "Tacos de carnitas"(braised pork"), could have been the same meat, given they had been cooked beyond recognition, both on a very small "bed" of rice & a tablespoon of "salsa"-pathetic.

The lamb (so called signature dish) was boiled/stewed to death - we had to ask for sour cream and chilli sauce to make it edible - it was like eating a dry, tasteless kebab! The only reason we ate this rubbish was because we were starving! The condiments provided were also bland and tasteless - one appeared to be made of olive oil with dry chilli powder stirred into it, another we think was water/vinegar & corriander and the other was just totally unfathomable. The prawns were overcooked and the chicken were slimy pieces of thigh meat. We ordered two dips and two other entrees and where charged $7.00 for extra corn chips + $9.00 corkage for 2 bottles of wine?

We made our grievance very clear prior to paying the bill - charging $9.00 corkage for 2 bottles of wine was steep as was charging $7.00 for extra corn chips - they should have supplied enough corn chips for the dips in the first place. The chef did not even bother to come and speak to us. This place does not even rate 1/2 a star - nearly $300.00 and it was an horrific experience.

  • All dishes were served with the same side dishes of Mexican rice with bean stew & a salad the size of half a walnut. The rice and bean mix had evidently been sitting in the open some time as all had developed a skin. The quality of the meals varied from average to poor. The chicken & chorizrio Mexican style was actually reasonably flavourfull but unfortunately omitted the chorizrio. The garlic prawns were overcooked and served with tortillas that had evidently been heated up some time before and had time to dry out & fall apart. Finally the lamb served to one of my companions has had them home from work for 2 days with food poisioning.

  • A great change from the microwaved mush one usually associates with 'Mexican' food. Went on a cold, winter night, place was not busy, few local families with young kids having dinner. Very friendly waitress. For entree we had chili con queso dip with blue corn chips - divine! And an amazingly tasty warm chorizo and olive dish cooked in balsamic. We did cheat and dip the olives & chorizo into the con queso towards the end when the chips ran out!! Naughty but nice.

    For mains, I wanted to try something really different, so took the waitresses recommendation and had the maize/pork soup thing. Certainly different, very tasty& light, but was expecting a bit more meat. Partner had chimichanga which was substantial and tasted lovely.

(original leather and 30 yrs old so dont think it counts). Great place to try something different, extensive menu - was hard to make decision, so will be back to try something else!

  • This was my second visit as I enjoyed (obviously) the first time, but was a little bit disappointed this time round. My two friends did not enjoy their main meals, and even doubted it was what they ordered. Our entree of guacamole at $14 was tiny! And when one of my friends asked for extra sour cream with her main the bowl was nearly as small as a thimble!

    On a positive note, my other friend loved her hot chocolate.

  • Outstanding, not your usual Tex Mex. Enjoyed the jalapeno rellenos (REALLY HOT) and quesadilla de calabaza (really delicious) for entree. The mains were the standout I had the soft tortilla filled with cactus, mushroom and chayote, it was a great blend of flavours that worked really well together and the first time I had tried cactus. The boy had a fish tortilla concoction which he thoroughly enjoyed. We were very impressed that there was none of the standard nachos/tacos and we weren't stuffed full of cheese when we left.
